It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Yet if there was a possibility of that being the case, we presumably wouldn’t have just bought two young defenders. There must now be serious doubts as to what the aforementioned can deliver in the remainder of their respective contracts, and we also have question marks over the continued fitness of Dias and Akanji. Guardiola has now had 26 games to arrive at a solution, and it increasingly looks as if it lies outside of the Etihad.

Irrespective of whether the solution arrives in this window, though, this forum will continue to resemble our midfield: all over the place.
I don’t think the likes of Soriano, Begiristain and the board at City are unaware of the fact we can’t compete with Gundo and Kovacic in midfield.

I still miss conventional LB and RB or invert ones. Ass opposed to what we have now which is CB who play there and Rico who is lightweight.

People have mentioned Kimmich especially as he can play midfield but others have said he is too old but how would he compare to Gundogan and Kovatic for pace legs and age he is younger after all right ? So wouldn’t he still be an upgrade ?

Yes but he wont be moving.

Kimmich is a non starter Kompany plays him every single minute it's the previous manager he didn't like and was making him open to a move away. That ship has left the dock.

Forum would be boring otherwise, lol.

Hows this place going to cope if we don't get a midfielder?

Pep has already hinted that if he had all defenders back fully fit then he'd play Akanji and Stones in midfield.
A big IF them all being fit and even if they were, wouldn't they be better off playing in their natural positions!

It seems strange to me that we would throw two young CH's straight into the team who are new to us, the league and the country, yet we have Academy midfielders who have been with the squad all season who can't get a look in!

Pep tends to play players the club have paid for over any academy guys

You know how Spurs were the Kane team?

We are the Rodri team.

All these players that we say are suddenly crap will look a lot better when he is back.

Which is why we have to buy an exceptional DM because we can’t have this again.

Arsenal have Zubimendi coming when they already have Rice. I don’t get we have to have a half decent backup because everyone is scared of Rodri coming back.

I just hope that Viana knows he’s allowed to buy world stars if the chance arises as well? He’s not buying for Sporting now and not every player has to be one that is possibly looked upon to be sold on in the future? Different operation now and it would be interesting to know if Txiki agreed with any of these signings or khaldoon and the board are giving Viana his chance to impress

if there are ant we want sure we will, but he's building a world class squad first and foremost. Names will be irrelevant to the whole or should be really,

No guarantee he will have that remit at all. Ferran and Khaldoon still control the purse strings.

I wouldn't read that from the signings this window - all 3 are players that other big clubs were circling around and it screams of fixing a need now & acceleration of summer plans. The 2 CBs may not be the finished articles but both are viewed of as having huge potential rather than just resale value, with the skills to make an immediate impact (Khusanov more than Reis, but the latter was a Brighton target). Marmoush is literally the hot property in Europe at the moment.

I'm frustrated by the lack of midfield signings but the other signings are great for squad development and bode well

Not very surprising, but sounds like we’re working on it. If we weren’t, he’d say something about how good the squad is and many different players could cover etc

My view is we’ve boxed off the easy to do ones this window to leave the next 6 months free to concentrate on getting the signing of the next CM partnership absolutely spot on.

Isn’t that why he moved to City ie he has no limits now the budget and the fact that the majority of players will see City has a massive upgrade
