It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

So this summer, bring in:
A keeper
A right back
2 or 3 midfielders

Departures I think will happen:
Ederson
Walker
KDB
Gundogan
Bernardo
Kovacic
Nunes
McAtee
Phillips

That’s an awful lot of change for one summer that will likely be heavily disrupted by the Club World Cup. I think we can add players before it starts which we probably should if only to get some sort of bedding in pre season.
I think Bernardo and Kova will stay another season as back ups and I think Mcatee will stay for the long-term, becoming a decent squad player over time.

Phillips and Nunes offer next to nothing and the top four are absolutely knackered.

It looks like a lot of change but in reality it's 4 new players, max, and maybe only 3 if Akanji is established as our first choice right back.

What if Neves never interested to join City like Bellingham did?

We might actually tried but for some various reasons the player in question just flatout refused.
he was tapped up by PSG very early doors. Mendes wasnt moving him anywhere else imo

Get used to it , it’s how Viana operates, signs young talent that can become great players. Normally to sell on at Sporting but that won’t happen here. Reading up on Viana it’s how he operates.
It is also great progression planning for a slightly lower fee which allows us to go big in the areas we desperately need it while hopefully avoiding having to do another rebuild in 3 or 4 years.

We were never going to do much more in January, I personally would have liked another midfielder in but I am happy with Viana's start

I'll be pretty amazed if Akanji is our 1st choice right back next season.

I fully expect City will prioritise a right back and the midfield in the summer. Maybe even a keeper and another full back depending on outgoings. Think we need a minimum of 4 to come in and maybe more depending on the outgoings.

Said it somewhere on the forum today, can't remember where though. RB priority No1. GK situation needs sorting and CM and AM likely required. Agree with outgoings bit as well.

while we may have bought potential over winter, we havent addressed any of the real problems with central midfield...the prblems are much bigger thn rodri not being availabe.
Gundo, KDB Kova are all done and finished at the top level and while we probably cant replace those players in the winter I really do hope we have our plans well underway for summer as a its probably the biggest overhaul of players in one go that has been needed since HRH took over.

Replacing KDB, Gundo and Kovaicic in one summer is going to me huge but is desperately needed. Add to that replacing Walker and adding a left back in as well and probably a replacement for at least one of Ake or Stones (or maybe even both - i dont think Reis is suddenly going to be ready to start regularly next season after just one summer) then that is nearly half the first team. But that is the true nature of what faces the club at present as those players mentioned above are either completely finished or need to really prove their long term fitness.

Leave, upstairs, remain.

Their time is nearing an end, but unless they come with exit deals already in place, I cannot see us parting with them all.

Having watched Branthwaite again last night, I’m convinced he would be worth every penny of the 75mil required to replace anyone of our CBs that can’t get through 90mins

I'd be surprised if all of those happen. We are unlikely to turn over virtually our entire midfield, it's not that I think any of those listed is particularly unlikely just that all of them together won't go. I wouldn't be suprised to see two of Bernie, Kova and Nunes still here. We probably can't sell Phillips though he will presumably be on loan somewhere.
Also think at least one centre back will go.

I don’t think we need a backup for Rodri next season I’d use Stones, I’ve been asking for him to play there for ages and he did well against Madrid, with his injury record I’d use him as back up and only play him when Rodri needs a rest, let him see his contract out and go for someone else the following season.

We need proper central midfielders imo. RB and AM.

Walker, Ederson, Gundo and McAtee nailed on to leave. Questions marks over Kev too

Think O’Reilly will push for a move too.

Grealish and Nunes considering futures. I reckon we just roll with our CB’s for another season

It’s pretty crazy that it feels as it the four additions in January haven’t really scratched the surface of what we need to solve. It’s a good start though

Can see him getting injured pretty quickly playing there for any sustained period of time
