It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

At one point we had De Bruyne, DSilva, BSilva, Gündoğan, Fernandinho, Rodri and Foden all playing at a great standard.
Dinho was in his final year when Rodri joined. Our rivals had comparable defence and forward lines, but it was that midfield that gave us the edge. We'll remember them for a long long time, as I doubt we'll ever have this much quality in midfield again.

we need proper recruitment big time. if our pull is not good enough bit after a treble and 4inarow, it never will be.
but going for 2nd rate players while replacing incredible players will only make us solidify our place as a club going for top4 rather than titles and late CL runs.

Walker, KDB, Gundo needs to be replaced with serious players not someone having a decent season at mid table clubs.
probably a serious winger needed too that is not allergic to get end product.
we have a big decision on GK position too with Ederson may not be that hungry to stick around for much longer and Ortega may get decent offers to be number elsewhere.

we also allowed to look into free agent market, Real Madrid spent total sum of transfer fee zero for Alaba, Mbappe, Alexander Arnold if he goes there. we spent 100m for Phillips and Nunes. we need to be clever in the market.

Free Agent market is wank this summer pretty much. shame

Just a reminder that Bernardo, Fernandinho, KDB, and Rodri were not world stars when we signed them. Rodri was condemned on here; KDB's purchase derided by 'experts'; Fern a 27 year-old plying his trade in Siberia; and Bernardo, a slow technical player from France.

I doubt many have seen Wirtz in more than a handful of games, and comparing a peak KDB with someone new we may buy, who may be at the beginning of his career, is grossly unfair, and, IMO, dull. The excitement is in what the player may become, just as we witnessed with the unbelievable development of Rodri, KDB, and others. Imagine what Bobb, Khusanov, Savinho, Reis, Doku, Gvardiol, and Marmoush may become, not what they are now in their first steps into the elite game.

KDB was Bundesliga player of the season for Wolfsburg and helped them get 2nd place despite being in a league with a lot of good players at the time.

Everyone wanted him, his numbers were insane. His hype was way more than what Wirtz currently has in my opinion.

Bernardo helped a Monaco team get to a Champions League semi final.

Rodri was also playing for Atletico Madrid in a title race in La Liga and Champions League hunt, and was scouted and managed by one of the the best DMs of his day in Simeone. He knew he was a player.

We need to stop looking at mid-table French league wingers, mid-table PL players who have a few good months in the league and now they are worth £80, stop buying consecutive midfielders like Kalvin Phillips and Nunes from relegated or relegation threatened teams.

Time to get serious and buy the Mahrez stype players who won leagues and Premier league player of the season awards, Haalands who scored 30 a season every year, players who are doing it in the Champions League and in for others in title races across Europe.

This isn't a time to buy young promising players, we have plenty of them as it is. Time to buy the proven ready to go.

Outside of Wirtz, who are these players? realistic.

Camavinga can't get a game at Real Madrid and is by all accounts questioning his future. Smash £100m down.

I would buy Baena as Gundogan replacement. Best creative player in Spain, £50m buyout.

Frimpong as an attacking right back option for the defensive teams. £40m buyout.

Cambiasso from Juve.

Ederson from Atalanta as a Kovacic replacement.

All those players have won trophies and/or been in title races and CL, bar Baena.

All will improve City,

One of Vinicius or Rodrygo will have to go soon to facilitate the Mbappe circus and give him a supporting striker instead to play with. They might just bite the bullet on the biggest name. As dislikable as he is we need to be in the market if he moves

If Camavinga moves, we need to be in the market.

De Jong has been available for years and would transform our midfield.

Success in Germany is no guarantee of success in England, and KDB had failed to secure game time at Chelsea. He went on to be a true great. His purchase was mocked by experts, as we well know.

Rodri was not a world star, by any means. By your Bernardo assessment, Doku and Savinho are top-drawer because they helped us become four-peat champions and into the latter CL stages. And are you referring to FFS Mahrez?

It feels like many posters ignore the development that these players had while they were here. They were not elite level on arrival, but became it, just as these new players may. Marmoush, for example, had league-leading stats in Germany; Khusanov the best U21 defender stats in Europe. These are not 'nothing players'.

I don't know what has happened to a section of our fanbase here. Enjoy the ride - no team leads the game forever - and a season decimated by injury is not a sound basis to slag off young players, nor to deride players spuriously linked by Twitter Romano wanabees.
