IT Support role (1st line)

IT Jobs are hard come by at the moment, we get really odd applications from highly skilled tecs for lower level work right now. The arse fell out the contracting market last year, and like engineering, IT is an industry that suffers in a recession. SO if you are doing a degree in IT with an eye to the future, then it seems a bit of opportunity to easily get experience in a hard pressed market.

My advice is if you take it, then put a shelf life on it - like 1 year. Get certifications as soon as you can, as it will aid massively when you want to move up and start having to deal with IT recruitment consultants (who generally don't have a clue). Certs and experience get you interviews in the future. And another thing, start specialising as soon as you can. Pick a server system and just learn the friggin thing inside out (SQL Server, BizTalk, Exchange, CITRIX are all platforms that are widely adopted in larger enterprises - big companys are where the action is).
