It was only a pre-season friendly

...but my God, that display has me salivating at the mouth.

Strong and solid at the spine of the team - Kompany, DE Jong and Lescott - that's something we've come to expect. But the cutting edge was outstanding. When we broke up play, the way we committed men forward was so exciting. We're used to Silva being available all the time but we had Milner and Ya Ya getting forward, the fullbacks overlapping, and the directness of both Mario and Dzeko. We were slick, we were like a coiled spring attacking in numbers when we won the ball.

All that ponderous bulid up play was gone: Tevez, wonderful player though he is, does sometimes slow play up for us by receiving the ball and holding it up, taking time. Adebayor was the same. Dzeko is different. He doesn't drop as deep as tevez, he holds it up magificently and he very much looks for an outlet as soon as he's won the ball. That helped with momentum a lot.

Kolorov was better than I've ever seen him. The balls he whipped in were quality but he did look a lot sharper. I've had grave concerns about his pace before but with the caveat that there may have been an injury problem. That looks to have been the case, so that's very encouraging. He wasn't really tested defensively but going forward he and Micah are a real threat. Micah's a shoo-in for right back and Clichy and Kolorov are going to be in a right battle for the left back slot.

SWP and AJ both look fit and hungry, so I see them as great bench alternatives to give us width. I really hope we keep these two.

And I'll tell you what, for the first time in may years we are a real threat from setpieces. Richards, Balotelli, Lescott, Dzeko - all excellent headers of the ball. The short corner we work with Silva is dangerous too. Silva was world class drifting around like that. He's going to be the key to the door for me. If we can keep him fit I think we'll win the league. And there's every chance we could have a serious run in the champions league too.

It may have only been a pre-season friendly but I think I've just seen the future.

Cheeky bugger. Your title had me ready to wade in!

Agree with everything you say so I'm off for a lie down.

Fair assessment Dave, but i thought Inter were poor...

what made me chuckle today were the reports the rags will play their kids on sunday....fergie already running scared....pmsl

Both this game and the US ones saw crosses from the middle actually hitting its target attacker, flying over the defence, and resulting in a goal.
I have not seen that in a long time.
Think its down to the players simply understanding each other more, gelling.
And that thing can only get better and better.

Also it feels we are holding on to the general good form of the end of last season.

Inter were poor and you could probably tell they are behind us in their preparations. But I don't care, 6-0 would have been a fairer scoreline.

I think we'll hammer United at the weekend, I really do. No way Fergie will play his kids, he knows in his heart the mental significance of this game on our players - and probably his too.

There's a phoenix risen from the flames in East Manchester. And it looks ready to peck his fucking eyes out to me.

He will put out a strong line up. His "kids" include 17 million Jones, 10 million Smalling, 19 million Keeper, 18 million Nani etc

I like this.

Inter fansites are all about us being further in to our pre-season, them only siding like 4 firstteamplayers + having an important cupgame coming up.

Bollocks. Last year we got smashed 3-0 with the same circumstances. Fair enough, Vieira got sent off which didnt help.
Now we´ve progressed and are simply a better side.

Very good assessment. I know it was just a friendly, and Inter were quite poor, and behind in their fitness, but I enjoyed what I saw. What makes me excited for the upcoming season, is that there is no big "settling in" period as there was last season. Last year, the preseason was very disruped, what with the World Cup, players coming back late, and new players playing in the Premier League for the first time, and needing time to adjust. Now, everyone has had a good period to rest, and the likes of Silva, Yaya, Balotelli, and Dzeko have had a season of Premier League football under their belts.

i agree, we would still have won had inter been further in their preparations....i'm going sunday and think we will destroy the arrogant dirty red twats...

And just think... we haven't even seen Aguero yet! Aguero's pace married with Silva's genius will win us the league.

fergie will blend his team in the shield with young and old. it ll be solid enough but he make a scapegoat out of one of his less experienced players should anything go wrong(i think he thinks, he build s character).if they take the lead he ll play closed shop and bring on more kids to play the media against us... it s normal rag w@*K.

city were solid yesterday.... silva, balo, dzeko "were all on song and playing like at seasons end".our defence will be solid this year and will learn alot on euro travels to help the domestic campaign.

genuine contenders! it ll be a roller-coaster for sure!

Yep, that's what I see. It looked like the best bits from the last 2 months of last season, with added fluidity. The way we committed men forward and were incisive and penatrative with our passing was tremendously exciting. We can rip anyone apart doing this.

For me, Dzeko looks fitter, sharper and more positionally aware. Balotelli was involved in everythings going forward. Kolarov looked quick...yes thats right..quick!...and Silva carried on from where he left off last season. Yaya looks like he's lost half a stone.

Hope Mancini comes out and says the game on Sunday is one he wants to win but really it's a friendly and its about getting the players fitness up and is looking forward to the game all with a big cheesy smile
