As ever the ability of Italian elections and politics to confound people is alive and thriving.

M5S the anti establishment and anti EU grouping are in talks to form a Govt with their counterpart Lega on the right with accusations from Berlusconi that Lega are breaking the right coalition pact by talking with M5S.

M5S have also signalled that they are willing to leave the EFDD euro sceptic group in the European Parliament and join forces with...Macron.

M5S leadership saying they must dump the Euro sceptics and become trustworthy and be pro EU but willing to fight like Macron.

The scent of power has a remarkably transformative effect in politics but you have to love the Italians and their ability to shift position without a hint of shame. It’s almost admirable.

To be fair to the Italians it’s far more honest than our legal gerrymandering.

Yeah it’s the barefaced audacity that I have a begrudging admiration for. They could all swap positions again in a weeks time and everyone would just shrug as if it was nothing.

Is that Venetian nationalist party still around anymore?
The Tuscan and Lombardy ones? Yep, they're still around, although they're yet to confirm if they'll actually pursue independence if given a mandate.
