not really, if he signs a 5 year contract now he’d be 26/27 with a year left on his contract there. Now the release clause could be a billion but if he refuses to sign a new contract Madrid would either have to sell him then or lose him for free the next summer.
Of course but what if he decides he wants to leave earlier? Then it's a case that nobody can pay his fee and he's stuck there.

I don't think Haaland is actually desperate to bounce from club to club. I think he'll happily stay put under the right circumstances. However he probably (or certainly) wants the freedom to move should he ever decide that's his way forward.

Whatever it is they are insisting upon, Mino and Alfie don't like it one bit.

It's a deal that essentially takes him off the market until early 30s.

This is pretty interesting because no one has ever challenged Madrid's policy of unreachable buyout clauses.

I can only assume that means they'd want one at City too, as things like Ronaldo's €1billion release clause at Madrid, or Isco, Vinicius etc at €600m was supposed to be a way of saying "OK so there's not really a release clause it's just on paper so we're not at a disadvantage compared to other countries where clauses are not required".
