Maybe. But I’m not sure we have even bid yet. Its like we need the money from one to sign the other but given the money we have made from outgoings that can’t be correct either. My guess is ornstein got the zinchenko news from arsenal and released it early. This hampered our negotiations for cucurella. Brighton can put whatever price they want if they know we already parted with zinchenko and have no LB.
Martin news today was damage control
That's a good analysis in terms of the numbers. Now in terms of quality:
Harland is 100% a big improvement up front. His signing alone shows a step up in quality. However, as good as Palmer is (or can be), he won't step up and like for like replacement for Sterling this season. If Mahrez gets injured then we are light on that side of the pitch. Although apparently Alvarez can play RW too - so depends how strongly he starts.
Phillips is a decent replacement for Ferds who was only a bit part player. Overall though he isn't improving our 1st team squad.
Overall I'd say yes we've taken a small step forward but could we do more? Sure. And the most pertinent point is we have cash to burn!
Question is, are we going big this season or waiting for someone next season...
Unless we are waiting on the Mendy trial it would have been better for City to have signed Cucrella, or similar left footed full back, and then considered any offers from Zin. If Zin goes every club knows we need a LB and it strengthens their position price wise. Piece of the jigsaw is missing and I guess we will never know.

Why go so far down the line with Zin then only to halt it while we talk to Brighton? There would be plenty of teams happy to buy Zin. I don’t think we were afraid of getting stuck with 4 full backs or are even against the idea.Which you could say tells you one of a couple of things. Otherwise, the club would have gone in and signed Cucurella no matter what, paid what it takes and got him in, when they did that with all the other targets.
Either the club aren't really in the market for a LB and are intereated in Cucurella or others down the list purely as a replacenent should Zinchenko leave.
Or Brighton are looking for too high a value, and the club are happy to be patient and stick with what they have, unless their arm is twisted by something like Zinchenko leaving.
Zinchenko is considering whether to join arsenal or stay with us.What's the latest update today boys. Too lazy to go through all the pages
I never understand these kind of posts that imagine football clubs don't have a clue what's going on outside of their own club but random fans on the Internet know everything. Brighton will be very aware of what's going on.My guess is ornstein got the zinchenko news from arsenal and released it early. This hampered our negotiations for cucurella. Would be incredible if zinny stays and we also sign la cucaracha.Zinchenko is considering whether to join arsenal or stay with us.
If Brighton ask a lot for cucurella we have Borna Sosa as an option according to some reporters.
Le Parisian said PSG wanted Bernardo - Neymar swap, we said NO
