It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Baffling but can think of two reasons
So are we having trouble with ffp?
Or
We are saving for signing wingers and midfielders next summer. With sterling gone and Bernardo and gundo leaving?

According to who?

How do we know his agent hasn’t had this in his pocket all along, hence city refusing to get lured in?

We don’t.

Trust the club.
It's highly unlikely that Cucurellas agent was stringing along City to get Chelsea to buy him. The lad wants a move, he wanted us but we pulled back so now Chelsea have stumped up the asking fee. Nothing underhand or unusual about that.

It's been clear from day one. City put 50m on the table and he will join. City decided not to, I've got no issue at all with that. Im not arsed if we get a LB or not.

If people are a bit pessimistic about the season, we're more likely to have success :) It's how it works.

After 16/17, many didn't believe Pep would be a big success in England. In 20/21, after the first 7-8 games, many were thinking Pep's finished (here). There were many bullshit posts in Pep's thread after that draw with WBA in December 2020. What happened after the draw? 21 consecutive wins, that's what happened, plus the title and the league cup.

In 21/22, after we failed to sign a striker, many predicted a poor season. What did happen, though? Best attack in Europe and the title, that's what happened.

Generally, fans are not good at predicting the future, let's be honest here. We expect to struggle in defence because we don't have a specialist at LB (and Laporte is not that good), and then we finish the season with the best defensive record in spite of a defensive crisis. We expect to struggle in attack, and we finish the season with the best goal tally in the world.

The amazing part is many don't learn from their rubbish predictions and worries. Or they learn from them and continue to make them on purpose: to not jinx things?

Anyway: you don't know the future and overestimate your ability to predict it. Calm down and trust in the club. Many fans would kill to watch KDB, Haaland, Foden, Rodri, Bernie, Grealish, Alvarez...in their team with Pep as manager. Our fans are very lucky these days.

FFP finished in June and was replaced by a more lenient version called Financial Sustainability Regulations (FSR)

I suspect this will be a tough season for us if we go in as it is with the state of squad.

It will come down to how we manage when Haaland eventually gets an injury due to his history.

With Sterling and Jesus gone that's goals gone from the team. Grealish isn't a great goal scorer neither is foden numbers wise compared to Jesus and Sterling. Alvarez a gem he may be but can he take that lone goal scorer role. If they can't then your relying on Mahrez

Only missing a left back, we're stronger everywhere else so far.
Not really, we don't even know our best front 3, so that itself is in a transition state, we've weakened defensively if we don't address the left back spot. It's a lot of change to adjust to and get going for a title charge, we're getting a bit too carried away. It's not a seamless transition, it's a change that could take time before we're firing on all fronts and I think to a degree we should accept that. Because a lot will change for our team to get back to their best given new names, different profiles and toughness of fixtures within 3 days each on average.

we don't. Pep will. The squad as a whole (bar lb) is slightly stronger than last year for me.

Just up the bid to £45m. See what happens. Before it’s too late.
I don’t want another Angelino, a ”decent” leftback. I want the best ones available and there really aren’t many.

I just have a feeling we will sign Grimaldo since he's la masia trained so he knows the Pep way already.
