True or not, people linking the apparent valuation of Gvardiol to Cucurella, and saying it must be bullshit are missing the point.

We clearly have a valuation for each player based on a number of factors, and stick to that valuation even if it means walking away from the deal.

Our valuation for Cucurella clearly didn’t exceed £40m all in - that doesn’t mean we automatically rate Gvardiol in the same bracket.

For example - at just 20 years old, Gvardiol has played in the CL the last two seasons. Something Cucurella has still yet to achieve at 24.

I can see why we’d rate Gvardiol more highly than Cucurella - arguably he’s a better player already, and a far more exciting prospect in terms of where his talent could take him with the right coaching.

Gvardiol would only make sense in the event that Chelsea panic, come back and pay up for Ake.

I can see the appeal from City's perspective of upgrading on Ake with a player more comfortable at left back, and signing a cheaper option in Gomez to replace Zinchenko.
