City have proposed a new deal to Bernie and vastly improved wages :)
Last Saturday may well have been a crucial moment, even in his own mind.

;)I sing it Bren-R-Do been getting the fucking letters wrong way round again :-(
Bloody thrilled if he signs. No matter what he always plays his heart out for the shirt. Committed, focus. Can turn a game that's on a knife edge. Would be brilliant news.
Allows us to insert a release clause too. Maybe City have had a word and said let us add a clause in a new contract, you can still move but it ensures we get a fair price and in the meantIme you get a bumper pay rise.Last year he wanted out with 3 years left on his deal.
I don't see what signing a new contract would do except see he earns more money before he tries to get a move next summer for the 3rd year in a row.

Is signs a new contract he will hold his €100m fee if he doesn’t cans see him going for €15/20m less
Yeah, we''l get more money, I just sense people think if he signs a new deal he's staying until he's 35 and I doubt it changes anything except the numbers really.
Told you I’d got the words wrong :-)))
What's the difference though? He has a pseudo release clause right now...we'll sell him if Barcelona meet the asking price.Allows us to insert a release clause too. You’re right of course mate - this is no guarantee he’ll stay beyond this season.
But it does give us a way of putting him on more money, which makes leaving the Club a lot more difficult decision in the current context.
At the moment, he’s on £150k p/w - which is so easy for any potential buyer to exceed that leaving City for the lifestyle he wants is the very definition of a no-brainer.
If we up him towards our very highest pay bracket, we’re making that decision a lot more difficult - for all parties.
Let’s say for example a Club that operated in a League with a tight wage cap - which they’re consistently struggling to keep within - wanted to buy him. At the moment - they best £150k, and he’s theirs.
However if they knew they needed go go north of £250k to beat his wages, that would give them a serious headache trying to get the numbers to work with a wage cap. Particularly if the Club in question have a stockpile of bang average players on hugely inflated wages who they’re struggling to shift as a result.
If said Club couldn’t beat the wages he’s on at City - a financially exceptionally well run Club in a League with no wage cap - then by extending we’re playing the advantage of the PL vs La Liga to improve our hand. Even with a Release Clause.
Smart move all round, as it also starts the conversation at £250k+ for Bernie and his agent.
I think it's more likely he was on £150k when he arrived for £43m in 2017 and his 2019 contract extension made that more like 200.
The 2019 contract put him at 175k ish. First contract was 100-120.I think it's more likely he was on £150k when he arrived for £43m in 2017 and his 2019 contract extension made that more like 200.
Plus I’d guess a new contract would be extended from the 3 years he has left meaning another club couldn’t wait for 2 seasons chipping away and get him cheap with a year left at least not until he was 32. They’d have to pay the release fee,.Fair enough mate - I felt sure I’d read a couple of articles which suggested he was on £150k, but I could well be mistaken.
Irrespective - the specific figures are only there to illustrate a point.
We can make this a lot more difficult for Barca to pull off by upping the numbers on this deal, and hit at their weakness which we know is their wage bill in relation to the cap over there.
And it’s in Bernie’s interest too, as it starts the bidding from Barca from a much higher base.
Agree with all this, but he might be tempted by a new contract with a release clause. It might suit all parties and give us time to prepare and bring in a quality replacement. There is no player in the squad I would love to see sign an extension more than Bernardo but I just can't see it. He has clearly wanted out for over two years and I would suggest it's a decision motivated by lifestyle not money. Even if he doesn't get his move to Barcelona this summer, he'll be hoping they come back in for him next summer.
I get the feeling that he'd be happy to go anywhere that provides him with the lifestyle he wants before signing a new contact with us, whether that be Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Paris or even a move back to Portugal. I just can't see him and his missus sticking it out for another three or four years in Manchester when he's already wanted to leave for so long. I hope I'm wrong though.

So is that it then for this window, or might there still be a surprise in store?. I personally think that's it
