What position is Rice in midfield? I know youtube vids is shit to go off but, he's not just playing CDM in most these highlights hes popping up on the left and right of midfield. Also alot more goals than I thought he'd scored. Leads most of the West ham attacks as well.

What is he?
Can play 6 or 8 but can drop into defence as I’m sure that’s what Chelsea wanted to do with him. He’s great at driving with the ball upfield.

Maybe he walker stuff is bullshit unless he gets a serious Saudi offer but I can't see that happening. With Gomez seemingly off and Ake/Gvardiol (or another LCB if doesn't go through) to cover the left I wonder if we will buy a RB this summer but more of a understudy/squad player until Walker does go.

I just don’t get it unless like you said Saudi is there for him. He will definitely add to his trophy cabinet next season for the final year and then go on a free to Sheffield.

Rice is known to publicly admire City players - Silva, Yaya, Aguero, Fernandinho, De Bruyne - so I wonder if he’d want to follow in their footsteps.

I’ll never forget that video of inside his house playing pool, he has about 5/6 City shirts framed on the wall. Amongst other clubs admittedly but there did seem to be more blue ones.

He's box to box

Makes me piss Bluemoon transfer thread. Now Declan Rice is overrated? Same as Bellingham is? "Overrated" the most used word on here. Rice is one of England's best young players, along with Jude, Saka, Foden etc. The future of the English national side. We should remember where we came from sometimes and be happy we are even being linked with players like Rice.

Instead it's "naaah not good enough for City" or "he's not as good as Rodri" OK, let's make Rodri play another 60 games next season then shall we, with no forward thinking strategy. Rice can cover both Rodri AND Gundogan. 2 players who definitely need a rest now and again, 1 of which could leave this summer. In addition to this, if we did trump Arsenal and end up with Rice, I'd be extremely excited to see what a world class player he'd become under Pep.

Stop being so entitled, arrogant and give your heads a wobble.

When will this sort of nonsense end?

Just won the champions league to make it part of a treble and people are still parroting on about the old days and oh well we used to be rubbish and could only dream of signing Samaras and Corradi.

With the level of our squad and this club, everyone is well within their rights to be questioning the ability of a midfielder from a club that battles mid table every season.

Selling Laporte, Cancelo, Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez and Phillips would be a huge turnover of players and significantly reduce wage bill and bring in some decent fees. Id be happy if we kept one of Gundo or Bernardo from that list though.

Rice, Gvardiol and Kovacic would be a good start to filling those places.

I guess we will also see what the market presents itself throughout the summer as we may also need a new winger if Bernardo and Mahrez both go.

My point still stands. "Overrated" gets used to often in this thread about players who are definitely not overrated.

Your point about West Ham battling mid table every season being a reflection on Rice doesn't stand up though. 2 years ago, we bought another young English player from a team lower down the league, look how that turned out....

I advise you go read the Grealish thread, full of posters who questioned it. Just because it has turned out well doesn't mean a whole lot. Grealish could have just as easily not kicked on in this second season and we would look like complete fools for spending that much.

Rice could be in the same boat as Phillips next year.

I think Rice would be an excellent signing. Still very young, with loads of experience and having missed out on Bellingham having his energy in the middle would be a huge benefit going forwards as a team. He can cover for Rodri or play alongside him, I think he's got the technical ability to develop under Pep into anything we want him to be and has the intelligence to thrive at City.

Everyone expected Chelsea to be his next club, then Arsenal and staying in London seemed important but if it's a choice between us and Arsenal then it's a no brainer for any player. It's will show how much he backs himself if he comes here. He's guaranteed games at Arsenal but he's guaranteed to become world class if he comes to City.
