It's Quiet - a new dawn

Sane played wingback a few times. Chelsea, Southampton and few other games. He was phenomenal. Those around him weren't. But he can definitely fill that roll if needed to tactically.

He wasn't a wingback. He was a winger.

We played 3241 and he was a winger. Just like Robben & Ribery were wingers not wing backs when Pep played the same formation at Bayern.

We could definitely play him in that role again, he was great, but he wasn't a wingback and 99% of his defensive contribution was staying high, pinning back Moses who was too scared to go forwards and leave Sané with space.

It's semantics though. If he's hovering around the 18 yard box tracking their overalaps, he's a wingback. Perhaps less so in the Chelsea game, but against Southampton he was a defensive monster. His link up attempts once winning the ball were great, but the other players had real issues in maximising it. It was early doors for Sane in terms of being part of the team, and within a few weeks our lads knew exactly how to use him.

I'm giddy at the thoughts of Mendy/Sane or Danilo/Sane. They are going to straight murder fullbacks.

If you've got a vid of the game, have a look at how Sane lines up, sometimes in a back 4 situation, like a fullback. And how much dedication & intelligence he applied to the job of trying to be positionally tight.

Fantastic effort.

Absolutely take no chances. The fact you mention taking chances implies there is risk. Why take it if we dont need to
IMHO, I don't see it as a risk. We are now starting to produce youngsters that are the best of the best, and the only thing holding them back was the amount of senior pro's we had at the club. Going forward, our senior squad will probably hold 20 of the best player's the club have ever had, and then be made up with the very best talented youngsters to come thru the academy. I believe these lad's will start to get plenty of playing time (not just in cup comp's but also in the league) from the bench and also starting matches. We don't need to start them all in the same side, but bring them through individually surrounded by top player's. Let them learn first team football playing alongside the best player's, let them gain their confidence, and then after they have been given the best possible opportunity to succeed, Pep can assess them, and do what is best for the club and player.

I was looking at this yestrerday.

11/12 - 25 senior players 8 youth Apps
12/13 - 25 8

13/14 - 23 5
14/15 - 22 4
15/16 - 22 51 (35 Kelechi, 8 in the FA Cup game)

16/17 - 23 17 (46 if you still include Kelechi at this point)
17/18 - 20(?)

Mancini with a full 25 man squad played 2x as much as Pellegrini with 22 players, and when Pep had the same 23 man squad as Pellegrini he played the kids 3x as much.

I think it's a case of "If you don't want to use kids, you won't", whether that's with a 20 man squad or 25
The numbers you have posted probably prove you to be correct, but that is past season's. Going forward ( this is only my opinion ) with the team Pep is building, the all round quality, will be far better equipped to incorporate the best of the young talent coming through the academy.

He'll never win it as long as he keeps going missing from November to March mate. He's done it every year so far. Let's hope the competition in the squad allows us to keep him a bit fresher and motivated this year.
Disagree... remember he got that nasty injury v Everton that laid him off for 3 months . And last year, as started he had his first new born. He's lean and fit, had a great pre-season. Ready to rip it up.

Agreed. He was up and down the wing all game, as our full backs will be expected too, and his best contributions in that game came breaking from deep.

Some think sane is the one most likely for the chop..... I know, I know, I laughed too (:
