It's Quiet - a new dawn

In the 11 games Jesus was involved last year we scored 33 goals, that's without the second half of the season impact from sane and aguero getting used to the system...

They will blow that total out if the water, the problem remains a central defender!!
It is wonderful how with football we can all see the same thing so utterly differently. I look at the balance of our squad and just think, if we sign VVD, we win the league this season, if we don't we are completely at the mercy of a Kompany injury. So many look at the same squad and think that we are crying out for another attacker and we are fine at the back. Fucking loons.

Jesus is the unknown. He could explode but hasn't looked as sharp pre-season. Very early days though.

Our manager must be a fucking loon then!

PS - agree defence a priority. It just seems his priority is strengthening attack.

The reason we can't is because 99% of the teams we play have 11 men inside their box, there is only so much we can do.

We try mixing it up with having wingers, overlapping full backs and everything else but sometimes you just need that bit of luck. Thankfully if a team has a split second loss of concentration we seem to be on it and a ball is threaded through to Aguero or whoever and its a goal.

I would rather we took more risks with shots from outside the box as sometimes we spend 60/70mins passing the ball around and as we saw last year, we lose the ball for a second and the other team fly up the other end and score.

11 behind the ball isn't the whole reason. We were never short on chances, just people who could put them away.
This season Sterling looks far more confident, so hopefully he can boost his tally. If Pep can add confidence to Silva when he is in front of goal then he may do the same. When Aguero arrived, he never seemed to miss the target though he did , of course. He certainly seems to miss more chances now though and being under pressure from Pep and Jesus seems to have made him edgy, the total miss kick and the one on one against Brighton being possible examples. I deffinately think we need a back up, just in case. Also, we were unlucky with injuries the last two seasons , if we lose Sergio or Jesus we may be screwed without cover.

If the window closes and we haven't bought a decent centre back and have splashed more cash on Sanchez or Mbappe then, yes, I will think Pep is a fucking loon.

I hear you on the centre back point but I don't rate VVD anywhere near as highly as he's valued at the moment. He seems to be flavour of the transfer window and I think that's leading people to covet him. I've watched him live a few times and he's a good defender in a very organised, collectively defensive team, but he's not a significant uograde on Stones imo. Just as liverpool have found with Lovren, that setting at Southampton can paper over cracks.

It's all about opinions. I think he is significantly better defensively than Stones and physically much stronger than him. Just in terms of numbers, it's pretty obvious we need a CB since Kolarov went as I just don't believe that Pep fancies Mangala at all. And that's before we even begin the discussion on Kompany's injury record and how flaky we are at the back when he isn't there. For me it is an absolute no brainer, we get in the best CB we can. We bring in another attacker then it is adding another option to what I see as a fantastic array of attacking options that we already have. Obviously ideal world, we bring in Sanchez and VVD but if for any reason we can only do one of those deals then for me VVD would have a much bigger impact on the balance of the squad and our chances of winning the league.

It is an interesting point you make regarding Aguero and one I have noticed. When he first signed I remember saying he had ice in his veins. He was so relaxed under pressure, never panicked or snatched at chances he was ice cool. He will always score goals and is a great player but some of that composure in front of goal seems to have waned a bit.

The margins are so fine on this one, it would be suicide imo ... we could feasibly play until Feb/march, gain a 10 point lead, lose vinny and we would be fecked, I certainly wouldn't hold much confidence in defending that lead, at present.... in saying that I think we are going to see a season like under Manuels first, where our attack is so good we'll just scrape it, regardless of injuries... why chance it though..

He hasn't, yet is getting in some extremely positive positions... the beauty of Gabriel is i don't think we'll ever rely on him for goals, yet he'll bag loads and his mere presence opens up gaps right across the top due to his movement... I genuinely think Kun will have his best ever season this year due to the headache this lad gives defenders, there's already been a sniff of it!!!
