It's Quiet - a new dawn

Arsenal accepted a bid for Oxlade Chamberlain from Chelsea per Sky Sports. Surely not even Arsenal would let both him and Alexis go with less than a week left...

I'm saying he eventually always gets involved as an additional ten, because the entire front six are parked on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Hence, there's fifty yards to run in behind us with one fast ball out on the counter.

Gundogan is the Lampard type player picking the ball up all over the pitch and threading things from midfield (a miles better passer than lampard). He then spots space and times his run to get into the box. Trouble is with silva de bruyne and so many other attacking players on the pitch should we lose the ball it is the same problem.

However, gundogan is far more intelligent than most. If pep says do not go beyond a certain spot on the pitch then he will not. I think he can play that holding role but i think the bigger question is whether mentally he wants to dive into 50-50 challenges after his injuries.

Stones could play as a holding midfielder without a problem. It would suit him, stepping out from cb and playing a slightly higher line. I am surprised Pep hasnt done that already when we have played 5 at the back so ferny has someone alongside him as a shield in front of kompany and otamendi.

I've no Stones fan, but the problem he's had is Fernandinho. He's just stood smack bang in front of him, blocking his way forward instead of moving 6 years either side to open the channel further. I'm telling all, playing Fernandinho in this team is strangling it.

It is the main reason in my opinion that we will not win the league. We will concede too many with ferny in the side as a dm. We will therefore fail to win too many games and even lose several. Meanwhile Chelsea and the rags are still showing that defensive based midfields will win out in games more often than not. We have so much creativity but most occupy the same areas. So essentially it is an easy task of watch us pass pass pass and then break with ease at speed. It invariably leads to a chance of sorts for the opposition.

I think most blues remain worried that we will win zilch regardless of peps abilities and our forward players, if we do not get a dm. We just will not have that balance.

I guess some may see KDB as being wasted there, but his passing range is immense, which makes him ideally suited to playing there. I like him much better there than in an advanced right position. He's also excellent at picking the ball up deep, charging forward and picking the right pass. I'd like to see us experiment with a midfield three of Gundogan, Fernandinho/Danilo and KDB. Perhaps with one of them playing just ahead of the two and given the freedom to run into the space created by our wide players.

Ederson
Walker - Kompany - Otamendi/Stones - Mendy
Gundogan - Fernandinho/Danilo
De Bruyne/Silva
Sterling/Bernardo - Jesus - Sane/Sanchez

But more of a 433 than 4213

With Bernardo, Foden and Diaz I think it provide Pep the platform to play KDB as our deep lying play maker. Almost like Xavi Alonso.

Should have used Pep and J.Mascherano then.

And my links (all four of them) do refer to Kompany as a midfielder.

Yeah but most of them are talking about him being a midfielder for us, because that's where Hughes played him, not because that was his position at Hamburg and Anderlecht.

Mascherano is a good example, I'm certainly not against changing a players position but I'm confident Stones will remain in defence.

We don't need a DM mate. Playing 3 at the back that role becomes the job of the central CB. The player in the traditional DM role should be a release valve. Gets the ball and quickly dstributes it. Gundogan and Silva would be excellent there. If we were a back 2 rather than a 3, then yes, you need someone with a bit more steel, but we need a Modric player in front of Stones rather than a Fernandinho.

He simply isn't up to playing the role. Not a great mover without the ball, and he's jamming up the lane in front of him. Fluid movement is exactly what's required in there, and unless he has the ball then Dinho just camps and waits for it once he finds space, but in this system his role is to make space by moving, not be in that space.

Not impossible but I would be surprised if they let both go.....Seems like defender Mustafi is also leaving!

Is the Alderweirald fee story legit? I.e that he has a buyout of £25m from next year? If so, constructing a deal like Liverpool's for Keita would be decent business
