It's Quiet - a new dawn

Oops, I actually meant successful passes and read it as a percentage. But neither of our lads hold on to the ball like Barkley does. Our players try to play the ball as a first option, whereas his one thing is head down and run.

No, that's a pretty outdated opinion of him, hence why he's making similar numbers of passes to De Bruyne, despite seeing a lot less of the ball.

Well it's an opinion based on watching him tbh. I expected more from him once Koeman came in. I just don't see it from him. Saying that, I think if we bid he'd be here before Everton could blink. Seeing Stones and Raheem make the move here and succeed would guarantee that.

Who exactly would Barkley replace in the side? Or is he a squad player? The only reason I see Pep signing him is because he is English.

Like I said i hope i'm wrong on Gundogan.

The English player thing is significantly underestimated by many on here. IF, and it's a big IF, you can find players of the requisite talent, then buying English trumps buying foreign for a myriad of reasons. Team spirit, club identity, the lack of a threat that they will want to move abroad (home), their marketing worth, the long term effect upon your position within the league when it comes to buying other talented English players.

Essentially, what United did in the 90's. Buy all the best English players so that every emerging English player wants to play for you before anyone else. It took Wenger's success and Chelsea's money to break that stranglehold United had. Since then nobody has managed to establish control of the English players' market. I think City can and will over the next three or four years. Sterling + Stones were the start.

Great post.

You see all the love Spurs get because they have so many English players. Rose and Barkley would be great here and we would have 4 starters in the national team. Barkley more so because he is younger, cheaper and has a lot of potential.

Barkley gets zero playing time, why is he suddenly a starter?

Barkley is nowhere near good enough for city. Wouldn't entertain him in a million years.

Utd had Beckham, Giggs and Scholes all homegrown and all these players were ten times better than Barkley. Flawed argument.

A combined 22 goals and assists for Barkley last year, playing under Martinez in a woeful Everton side, imagine how good he'd be for us.

Bony used to be baller for Swansea too. These types of players don't have the mentality to shine in a big club. He is not even a regular starter for Everton this season.

He's started 25 of Evertons 28 Premier League games. By that logic David Silva is not a regular starter for us.

Try to argue your opinion without resorting to bullshit if possible.

Im completely split in opinion on Barkley..sometimes looks amazing (esp against us) but at others he just looks like an athlete trying to play football.....However if one coach could improve him then its Pep.....his passing doesn't look good enough (short range stuff) or quick enough....but his ability to switch a ball is decent and he has a hell of an engine on him..Have to trust Pep on him if we do go for him.

If we need Home Grown quota filled id rather do it with Danny Rose and in the goal keeping department IF possible.

A summer of Dahood, Isco, Barkley, Rose, Fabihno, Henrichs and maybe Mbappe (only if sergio was to leave) plus a centre half (maybe bonnucci or Laporte) would certainly add some athleticism/pace, youth and technical ability to our ageing squad

getting rid of the likes of delph, navas fernando, nolito, clichy, (plus potentially yaya, zabba, who are legends) plus those out on loan would mean an upgrade in our overall squad.
