That squad will struggle to get 40pts going off the experts on here.

I'm delighted by that too - I cannot fathom the negativity towards him.
The negativity towards him is because he aint good enough.

The fact that Nunes ended up our first choice right back screams that.

And he is nowhee near good enough for our midfield...he is literally bottom of the pecking order including gundo.

He is a bit part player at the very most. It could be argued that we should sell him now while his stock is at the highest as another season like last and his value will only fall.

His lack of physical prowess will cost us games - the nature of the game in the prem has moved on and he aint good enough to keep up....

He gets a pass from a lot because he is homegrown - but there is no room for sentiment at the very top of the game.

Regardless of anybodies opinion on Lewis, Name me a better replacement...

We've just watched a season where we struggled to name a bench and suffered for having a small squad yet there's people here desperate for us to sell a player we literally cannot replace and therefore any sale would shrink the squad with zero benefit. Its a completely nonsensical argument before you even get to opinions on his level.

These graphics are great to see where we really need alternatives

Both fullback positions are light - but especially right back where we havent got a specialist right back - that has to be priority no.1 for the rest of the transfer window as he two options we have are simply not good enough except to get mid table.

Stones and Ake are surplus to requirements as they just wont play enough games to justify them taking up a squad place - we need to move both of them on in some way and bring in one more defender....I know people are down on Akanji but at least he is available for bigger parts of the season and that is better than nothing which is what Stones and Ake will offer.

That central 5 in midfield:

In reality the only ones we can be sure on are Rodri and Reijnders. Nico G to me looks good enough but something is amiss with him not getting game time...hopefully its just Pep taking his time with him but there are rumour out there that they have fallen out big time (someone mentioned something about the Spurs game?)
Kova should be just a back up (once he gets over his injury).
Gundo should be sold

The attacking midfield options are stacked with numbers even taking into consideration that McAtee and Grealish will probably be moved on. However we dont really have any old style wingers (Doku is abou the closest to that as he can go outside as well as inside and Altnouri will probably provide width as well). Our right sided options are all very similar and all want to come inside (Id kill for a Sane style wide player at present)

Strikers - we are good - different options with both Marmoush and Haaland and we can obviously revery in a crisis to playing a false 9 with the likes of Foden, Echeverri and others

Maybe we should have recalled Phillips then last season

In our squad every option we have in midfield is better than Lewis. At fullback Id have Nunes over Rico lewis and that is saying something...Id rather have akanji there and also Khusonov.

Id replace Lewis at fullback with many options including Dumfries...Id go as far as saying Id have many opposition fullbacks in place of him but Livramento would be ideal.

If we cannot find a midfielder better than him then something is very very wrong.

This idea of versatility is just an excuse for inferior quality - jack of all trades, master of none springs to mind

My entire post was specifically not about his ability, I literally said at the very beginning opinions on his ability are irrelevant. He's a club trained player, we cannot replace him with anybody that hasnt come from our academy.

Then we need to move others around in the squad to enable us to do so.

Who actually plays fullback for the academy? - we dont need Rico Lewis in midfield so we dont need to replace him there but surely the fullback in the academy is actually someone who can defend?

The squad really is bloated . Grealish and McAtee would have to leave that gives us two homegrown spots.
McAtee doesn’t only a club trained spot which we don't need. Currently the homegrown 4 spots are taken up with Stones, Grealish, Ake and Betinneli

I've no idea what you mean by move players around the squad.

Rico lewis currently doesnt take up a spot in the premier league and can still be registered on the B list for the CL, meaning hes a completely free player in the squad. In 2 seasons he'll be club trained but seeing as we havent filled that quota either, he'll still essentially be an entirely free extra player for the squad. There's no replacing him, sell him and you dont get to bring in anybody else. Its him or nothing.

There's nobody in the academy better than him. If there was they'd be in the squad too and they'd also be a completely free addition to the squad just like lewis.

So, by your reckonings, every player should be at their peak physically and mentally before the age of 21? You don’t think Rico will improve any more?

I think you're talking from your arse, and the arse don't see.
You will think the same of me, no doubt.
Hopefully, I am right because it will mean we will have another top player.

I’d keep Ake , best 1v1 defender we’ve got. I’d love to keep stones but he can’t keep fit so out of those it would be Grealish and Stones.

But we are going to struggle to find anyone that would take Stones, unless Everton fancy it.
