It's Quiet the £250m return

It's offensive to suggest Pep lacks the brains or the will to do what is right for the team.

The idea that fans can see better than him what our problems are is really stupid. Remember when fans were unhappy with Pep because he was starting Gundo and Rodri? Couldn't he see they are too slow? Guess what, those fans were very wrong, not to say silly.
To be fair, Rodri was not good his first season here. There is nothing offensive about saying such. If you think he wasn't, you are being silly, revising history, or intellectually dishonest. However, he did settle in and got better to become one of the best players in the world at his position.

That said, he is still a young man in athlete terms. Gundo is not. He is not going to get "better" nor is he miraculously going to become faster. John Stones, for all his brilliance, is most likely not going to be injury free for the majority of the season.

For all Pep gets correct, he makes mistakes. Fans, who are honest, know it. He even admits it at times.

I am often bewildered by some of the "biggest blues" here who think any honest criticism is a serious affront to everyone City. I should not be, but I am. For all the mockery some heap on those who have complete blind faith in religious people or political types, they ought look in the mirror when it comes to football. It's simply the same.

How on earth is it ‘offensive’ to suggest that Guardiola has his favourites?

Bernado was by some distance our worst player for long periods last season, and now he’s captain. Gundogan, as fantastic a player as he’s been for us, has seemingly been close to leaving us all summer but he was still the player Guardiola went to in the CWC.

Perhaps you should tone down the sycophancy and open your eyes a little.

RAWK and Rag Cafe are a bit further down the road if you wish to discuss " 'istree." ;)

Yes, having success is something some of us older fans weren't accustomed to previously. But, we all know football is game of "what have you done for me lately?"

The indignation some here show when a poster rightfully points out some players are "past it," or too injury prone for what we want to achieve will get you likes from some others here but that is about it. It's terribly short sighted. Appreciating what a player had done for the club in the past but thinking it is time to move on from them aren't mutually exclusive.

There is a reason the armed forces are generally made up of younger men and women and it is similar (not exactly the same) to athletic endeavours. Younger people are typically faster, stronger, more durable and recover more quickly. Older people also have more of an ability to tune out commands and demands of their "superiors," because they have different priorities in life.

Calling some players "Pep's favourites," is by no means offensive. I think it is generally recognized he has players he favours. Unfortunately, at the current time, a number of those players have lost a step, or five, of pace, can't stay in playing fitness for more than a few days at a time or aren't as driven as some younger players.
Generally speaking, I don't find you'll anyone who thinks we should hold on to the older players and let the younger ones go.

The "indignation" is usually directed to the ones who abuse the older players, not someone who thinks we should move them on (as do I).

Pep doesn't have players he "favours", he has players that he believes can do the job required, rightly or wrongly (his success would argue rightly).

Good way to slow us down.
Of course it is lets have a squad were half a dozen players can't be registered, or are left at home. What would the City DOF, and Pep Guardiola who has built more title winning squads, than you can count, and understands how to handle players on a daily basis know about putting together a new squad and how to handle it.

So any transfer news or we just debating using the old guard?
Gundo and Eddie possibly going to Turkey, emphasis on possible until it happens.

Other than that, it's just the usual wet wipes who believe any old tweet they happen across and then make some pretend doomsday scenario out of it.

I do wonder if he is waiting for what happens with Ederson prior to committing to Newcastle.
don't know if you listen to 9320 podcast but they said he's stalling waiting to find out about city keeping situation would make sense as to why it's taking so long to get the deal done for newcastle

Being aware that fans who haven't managed even a school team aren't likely to know our problems better than the best manager around are not being sycophantic but realistic.

For what it's worth, I do not believe the older players deserve abuse either. They brought success and should be appreciated it for it. Even those who were not "stars" did their part during training sessions and in matches when called upon.

That Pep makes mistakes is one thing, to know when he makes them is another thing. Again, fans "knew" Rodri and Gundo were too slow to help us win things. Those fans thought Rodri and Gundo weren't good in principle, not just in one season.

People who defend Pep don't claim he doesn't make mistakes. The issue is about the nature of the mistakes. Not being able to see someone isn't good enough to play for you or lacking the will to bench and sell him are too serious mistakes for a manager to make, one should give the benefit of the doubt in such cases.

One must be clueless to fail to realise how much more information Pep has about any of the players and how much better he understands tactics and possibilities for improvement.

Why the need to call people stupid? Are you not able to express yourself without resorting to insults? Having a discussion and feeling the need to insult someone, who may disagree with your position, tends to show the person is poorly educated, not able to factually support their position, unintelligent or lower class. It can also be a combination of the aforementioned reasons.

That’s not the issue being discussed - the question is whether or not he has favourites, which he clearly does.

I’m surprised somebody as clever as yourself would make a mistake like that.

Heres a positive Cherki and Haaland already showing a relationship on the pitch within a couple of games Cherki already knows Haalands movement they are developing chemistry. Doesn't matter who Liverpool or Arsenal sign. If Cherki and Haaland develope chemistry together. Your looking at records being broken again.

Goals wont be the issue next season, we will score 100 in the league alone easily I reckon.

It's defensive transitions and organisation.

Can this team prevent counter attacks? Can Pep adapt positional play to counter the modern pace and power transitional play that is decimating most possession based teams nowadays? is Ederson's head truly at City? Can we retain a high line? Can Dias play without a fast right back? What happens when Rodri is out, the question still remains? Right back situation?

Not concerned about us going forward, we will match or better anything Liverpool or Arsenal do. It's the style of play and the way we defend with it is my concern.

He won't play Cherki though he'll play Bernardo Gundogan and Akanji instead

;-)

There is a certainly a conflict of opinion as things stand. By the looks of some reports.

I was told this with Echeverri, and I guess this is why decisions on outgoings are still not finalised.

The only positive will be if the old guard are trusted for one more season the young lads will be loaned rather then sold.

Only yesterday I was told the decision on who goes is still to be decided. Nothing is finalised. Now this could also be due to players being away.

But as things stand I’m told outgoings are still not finalised.
That’s disappointing to hear, world class club and with 4 weeks to the start of a new season and still undecided who’s going sound rather pathetic. Not having a go just saying how it is
