Given that our executives are not thick I think we can assume that having perused Messi's contract either or both of the following were true.

1. He could leave for free now as per the end of season clause.
2. The release clause at the begining of this season was null and void.

There's no way we'd be on board with this if the only option was 600 million release payment.

So father has told son, u r staying at Barça..never mind that u r a 33 ur old man

Probably would have said that before he faxed through his intention to exercise his right to leave the club. I love how much drama there is around the Dad. Like he's not spoken to Messi in all of this and now he's landed is running the show and telling his son to change his mind. They'll have spoken the whole time and be aligned on their thinking. So much stuff lost in translation and therefore downright inaccurate.

"Dad"
"Yes son"
"I handed in a transfer request"
"Why'd you do that son?"
"Don't want to stay here"
"I'm flying over straight away then to chat this through"
"Dad, where are you?"
"Flight got delayed, had to skateboard"
"Dad?"
"On a plane now"
"Dad?"
"Having lunch in Barcelona"
"What you having?"
"Check Skysports"
"Okay, see you in a bit"

I guess for a lot of us - this wasn't the deal we were hoping for or imagined it may come true. I always thought Mbappe and Neymar were more realistic. It is just the buildup has been so much in these couple of weeks even the more cynical one of us may be dreaming of seeing him in skyblue.
He is a luxury signing tbh and the rather stall in the CB deal - KK and CM deal - Aouar ? and LB deal - which should happen imo makes me a big nervy.
