Bartomeu is such an idiot. He's so persistent in his quest to Messi seem like the bad guy that he's gonna lose out on a lot of money that he coulda got out of it. Strange behaviour

I found this.

Translate:

In relation to the different interpretations (some of them contradictory among themselves) published in the last days in different media, related to the contractual situation of the player Lionel Andrés Messi with FC Barcelona, LaLiga considers it convenient to clarify that, once the contract of the player with his club has been analyzed:

The contract is currently in force and has a "termination clause" applicable in the event that Lionel Andrés Messi decides to urge the early unilateral termination of the contract, carried out in accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1006/1985, of June 26, 1985, which regulates the special employment relationship of professional sportsmen.

In compliance with the applicable regulations, and following the procedure that corresponds in these cases, La Liga will not carry out the procedure of previous visa of federative discharge to the player if he has not paid previously the amount of this clause.
I've seen it now. But it's still nothing to do with them. If Barca come to an agreement and ask them to issue a transfer permit, they can't say no simply because the full release clause hasn't been paid. They're not a party to the contract.

Does the middle paragraph refer in some way to biying his own contract out? Im sure he can do this and we just give it him back through a hefty signing on fee.....surely thats the easy way oit now and notjing anyone can do rmto stop that
Yes that's how I read it too.

Anyhow, if our legal eagles fancy interpreting the Royal Decree...

If needs be, and subject to legal advice, leave it a year and then get him on a free. If Lionel then takes it easy in 20/21 who could blame him, and Barce can enjoy paying his salary. I suspect we will get by better for a year without him than they will with him. Good luck managing that one Ronald. Up yours Tebas. Start practicing a limp Lionel

Remember Tebas has previous for this, when PSG's lawyers turned up to pay Neymar's release clause and he simply refused to let them carry out the transaction.

On what basis? None whatsoever.

Besides him being an abhorrent human being? He can just feel his golden goose slipping through his fingers right now.
