I've finally built my PC, but one problem....... (Part 4)

Does the PC make any beep sound when switched on?

3 beeps memory..

Have you connected the board directly to the backplate or have you used the stands that you get?

If direct, you need the stands.

Have you connected all the power cables to the pc (long one and the small one)?

If not that will stop it powering on

Is the CPU fan connect to the right point on the board.?

Have you connected the switches to the right point on the board ? (reset, hdd, pwd).

if non of the above,

remove every connector and just plug in power, memory (only one stick) and CPU and then connect the power switch only and see what that does... if it boots add each thing one by one.

Think i would make sure everything is properly seated, especially the
CPU. Firmly press the CPU so that the pins are fully into the socket before locking the bar over. Make sure the fan is plugged into the socket marked CPU fan and use a thermal paste between fan and CPU.

As post above, but I presume you are not getting to "beep", test, stage.

Could it be a faulty power supply? Can you test this or swap with another.
Also graphics will work in bios and startup without drivers. Even if you load Windows they will work initially with default drivers.

OK lads I'm using the on board graphics, I'm not getting the test beep when switched on, I've attached the motherboard directly to the metal stands that were already on the case..... All power cables are attaches (the long one and small one next to it) also the separate 4 pin socket as well......I've got another power supply I can use...

One more thing when I turned my PC on again last night I touched the CPU and there was no heat coming from it, it was still cold??

My old PC used to do this when my power supply was on its way out (power up for 2 seconds, cpu fan would spin up and then die) and its done it before with brand new ones too which is a pain having to keep taking them back.

Did you buy a decent PSU or a cheaper one?

Also, i've had it where one of the case fans would completely knock my PC out too, once i unplugged it from the motherboard the PC would boot, was odd.

I wouldnt advise this at all, it could well be a zif cpu.

Z.I.F = Zero Insertion Force

Make sure your PSU is up to running all your stuff I had to upgrade mine, if you have a decent graphics card it will need AT LEAST 400w to run.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Make sure your motherboard is fitter correctly, a friend of mine had a similar problem and it turned out his motherboard was incorrectly fastened and was touching several screws.
