Jacob Rees-Mogg’s new rules

What you posted only confirms you are not a Catholic and don't respect the views of those that are or indeed those who aren't and don't agree wth you.

I'm a catholic, or at least I was born and raised one. My Dad is a strict catholic who gives communion out every Sunday. I don't respect catholic views at all and believe I am a good place to comment.

My brother is gay and didn't come out until he was 27. He fought the inevitability of his sexuality for years, having girlfriends, trying to be "normal". And do you know why it took him so long to admit he was gay? Because he came from a working class catholic family who believed homosexuality was a sin. He went through years of torment and hell because of the intolerance and bigotry of that church's teachings.

So anybody, whatever their beliefs, who tells me that homosexuality is wrong or unnatural or a sin or whatever bullshit word they use to justify their persecution, is small-minded, nasty and ignorant and quite prepared to ruin the lives of innocent people who have done nothing wrong but follow their innate instinct to be attracted to people of the same sex. It makes me sick and my brother is the reason why.

I think that quite simply sums the part of Gay marriage up. Great post.

As for his abortion views, the man is ****.

I forgot to mention that he's now been with the same man, a lovely bloke, for ten years and they are happily married. The wedding was a beautiful occasion and all the more moving because of the shackles of bigotry they've both thrown off. If someone wants to tell him, or me, that gay marriage is somehow wrong, they are going to get two fingers in their face because his life, and the happiness and stability he has found, speaks for itself.

And my Dad? It took him years to accept but now he has and he gave a wonderful speech at the wedding, even referring to his own shock. It seems that a real life human love story ultimately showed him how antiquated and nasty the religion he gave his life to can be.

I dont agree with his views on Gay marriage nor abortion but i respect his right to his religion as i do for everyone.

Plenty of other religions share the views of the catholic church.

Maybe we should insist on all politicians being agnostics from now on?

People can believe whatever they want, but the second those views leak into public life and they're actively obstructing other innocent people going about their lives they become unsuitable for public office. Like most bigots, he cherry picks the bits of the bible he wants to believe. If he can turn a blind eye the idea that rich people should be helping the poor (probably the one detail Jesus was banging on about above any other) then I think I he should be able to allow gay people to get on with theirs lives too. That lack of consistency from people like Mogg lead me to believe he's led more by his bigotry than his religious leanings.

Now I know plenty of people have a problem with Sadiq Khan (FWIW i'm completely indifferent to him) but he seems to manage being a muslim and still being able to engage with and support the gay community.
