He is 17; an exceptional talent, possibly a bit cocky and undoubtedly badly advised. We may be disappointed he left but surely we can't hold it against someone so young and hope their career fails?
I disagree. What had City done to show him staying with us was the right move? He could not have predicted what was to come. He no doubt felt that a couple of pre season games would have led to him being back in youth team and struggling for first team chances.
Looking back now he missed out on the chance to experience a world cup final (where he might have pipped foden to player of the tournament based on previous form) and then some first team chances for City and possibly also pipping Foden to young sports personality of the year.
Things at City have improved hugely this season. Pep has been true to his word and Sancho may regret moving. But it is early days and Dortmund have a much much better track record for bringing through players who stay at the top level than we have regardless of the fact we played some academy players last night.
The reason we brought Pep in was to change that. To make young players confident they could succeed at City and to have a co veyor belt of talent joining the first team or being sold for profit and having good careers elsewhere. It is early days on that front but we are seeing a big improvement. Particularly as that was a quarter final last night away from home against a good side.
