James Milner

For all those that like Gareth Barry I urge you to watch Milners performance last night and then maybe just maybe you might start to understand why I consider Barry nowhere near good enough.

Milner was a straight swap for Barry last night and showed exactly what the player in that position should be bringing to the team.

Milner should have scored early doors from a position you would hardly ever find Barry in.

He played Tevez in for the 1st goal from a position you would hardly ever find Barry in.

It was Milner that burst forward and beyond the strikers in the 2nd half when it looked like we had been given a penalty. Barry is pretty much incapable of doing this due to a complete lack of speed.

On top of this Milner did not shirk his defensive responsibilities.

On the whole Milner has been poor this season but last night we saw glimpses of what he can be capable of and we clearly saw what the position he was playing in is all about. Being invisible and doing these so called dirty jobs that nobody notices is clearly not what that position is about......remember this next time you try and argue that Barry is a good player and integral to the team!

Glad to hear all these positives about Milner, I couldn't watch as I had a match of my own but just about to check the extended highlights now.

I'm a big fan of Milners, I hope he can play more games and centrally aswel. I know Yaya's goal have not only been crucial in ones he's scored but I think given the same role, Milner can produce 10 goals a season in all competitions.

Good to hear about Lescott aswel, I really cannot see the need to dip into the market for a centre back with his and Vinnies form at the moment. Both looking solid together!

he was excellent, good player that lad.

Agree, he must be really frustrated this season, he brings so much more than Barry imo.

Engine, vision, passing, runs behind the defence, ability go get back and help break down play after an attack and can shoot.

Brings so much more agility and energy to our midfield.

I am glad to hear that because he just is not a winger. I know one of the main reasons Barry plays is because of his football IQ and I think Milner is exactly the same just a few years younger. If we hang onto him, I think he could see a lot of action next year and truthfully, I hope he does.

I remember one Cup game mid season where he looked great at that position. Does anyone remember which game I am talking about?

Milner has improved loads over the last month. But I still think Barry has something to offer.

What I especially liked was he tried things that stretched him technically rather than playing within himself. Missed that chance badly and misplaced a few passes but he made a lot happen like the assist to Tevez, the run to win the freekick and that ball from deep in midfield out to Johnson.

More of the same next year hopefully.

I agree that Milner had a great night. He gets into positions that Barry rarely seems to find but I think he has a ways to go to match Barry's consistency.

In fairness to Milner he has rarely been played in his better central position. If you could take the better attributes of Barry and Milner you'd have one hell of a central midfielder. I rate them both but think they are each limited in their own way.

im probably 1 of his biggest critics on here because i think he as been shite all season, but last night he had a brilliant game

Can't really say he's been shit all season, This was only something like his 7th start in the league and probably only the 2nd or 3rd that had him in the middle and not on the wing. He is the natural replacement to rotate with Barry when we have Champs League next season

.

I thought it was an awful attempt on goal but after watching the highlights, he was clipped from behind as he pulled the trigger
