To be honest he is a small fish in a big pond, and the converse at villa. Now I'm not for one minute suggesting he is utter shit, however he offers know creative flair, which is what we initially bought him to the club for. He relentlessly gives away free kicks in dangerous areas which ultimately develop into goalscoring chance for the opposition. I've got the impression that fans consider that when Mancini selects him over Barry in the midfield it is a more offensive approach, however he fails to contribute anything going forward, which is why I would in turn prefer Barry, hands down over Milner, as as he will contribute as much as Milner in attack i.e none. and as a holding player he enables a free role to the forwards. Although know one can doubt Milner's work ethic, he has consistently failed to perform in every role e.g winger-Everton away, behind the striker-Europa league and the central midfield role we now find him.

Can i suggest that maybe the problen is how we play him in our team - not for one minute suggesting he is a world beater but we need to start concentrating on getting the best out of the players we have omstead of thos conveyor belt shit of players we buy and sell

if you asked any blue would Cleverly (or whatever) Evans and that other fooker - Smalling in our team we would say no but after that performance i would take them tomorrow -

From what i can see we still dont have an established pattern of play and Mancini seems to put players together with little thought and expect them to win games individually

We need Nasri than after that he needs to get on with it show some fookin bollocks and try and win fookin games playing football

i just think that mancini likes him to be honest. as i believe a former teenage cross country champion he has stamina tho' no real speed. therefore he is reliable. no he won't ever make a blistering run or dribble past 3 players but sometimes an honest grafter is needed. i think he will play most games this year unless we get another 2 midfield stars.

Well I think the insistence by Mancini that we are not finished in the transfer market says otherwise.

It seems that he's starting to play in more of a central role, as he did at Villa. Maybe Mancini thought he would be better played on the flanks last season.

If Yaya Toure is injured / suspended, then he's the closest we've got to a replacement in the squad at the moment

i thought milner made quite a few good runs yesterday. Evra brought him down when he was almost through on goal and there were a few others too. Onwards and Upwards

Agree with OP - big fish at Villa
Mancini is now having to justify his purchase but it looks a forlorn pursuit. I think he is mentally getting ready to jettison his big ideas about Milner as somekind of "engine room"

If he continues to start over Barry, we will see more of the problems in midfield we had today

Nothing wrong with rotating the two players, it's all dependant on who we're playing and the match situation.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we somehow got ourselves a two goal lead in the first half, for me this is when Barry should of come on alongside Nige.

We could all see Nige was getting over run in midfield and he was really non-effective until Barry come on.

We under performed in all areas yesterday including Mancini not being pro active with bringing Barry on at half time when it was crying out for it.

I think Mancini would of learnt a lot yesterday about himself and his players.

I feel our midfield struggled without Barry and Milner just isn't good enough in my opinion Barry, De Jong and Toure Yaya are our best midfielders and they should start nearly every game
