January transfer window....

Listening to what is coming out of the club from Mancini, reference Soriano and Cheeky specifically, I fully expect us to move early and possibly pay a little more. We'll see at least one guy announced and sealed by the 11th Jan, is my prediction. No way Cheeky will want to be seen as hesitant or not having an impact in his first window. We're probably already preparing bids now.

It seems we will be looking to bring in at least one creative midfielder, maybe a box to box guy too. Anything else may depend on injuries, outgoing players, and what our main rivals do (especially in regards to remaining in European competitions, not just signings) but if Chelsea go for Neymar for example, I'd expect us to follow.

I think we'll be monitoring De Rossi for changes, but unless he's ready to go and shows this clearly by December, then we'll forget about him.

Can also see a defender on the horizon, especially if Kolo goes as expected. Ideally I think we'd like a younger Englishman to come in and challenge, but finding the right guy could be a problem. Glen Johnson could play either side but ain't my first choice, or second, and so we could well go Italian again.

If Milner goes, and I think the size of the fee will be a problem, then I can see us going for Fellaini or an adaptable midfielder. Maybe even a cheeky Wiltshire bid as I do also think we will make a surprise signing. Not necessarily a marquee signing, but a decent name that will have been approached and tied up well in advance, getting a steal on our rivals.

And then there is the Balo question. if he does go then I can see a Falcao or Neymar bid big time.
And you think all of this will happen in January?

Not a chance.

I have a good feeling about the upcoming window:

DDR
Agger/ Coloccini.
Falcao

It's a real shame we'll have to spend January putting right the wrongs of the summer transfer cock-ups. Instead of just adding one or two players to give us the final push to retain the league and go through the knock out stages of champs league.

I was going with his flow, till I came to the words 'Glen Johnson.'
Glen Johnson? Glen f'kin Johnson?!
I'd rather have Kolarov playing right back with a broken left leg than Glen Johnson. Now, please go away and never post on the internet ever again you cretin.

We WILL sign Benat...

He could be a masterstroke signing. I'm a De Rossi fanboy but feel we may actually benefit more if we pursued and bought Benat over De Rossi in January (we could have both in the team but there's no way we'll buy two more central midfielders in January after getting Rodwell and Garcia). What he brings is exactly what we need in midfield, a player with vision who will play ambitious passes and not limit himself to partaking in our Ray Wilkins-esque sideways passing exhibitions. He's also no pushover and really gets stuck in with his tackling too, plus is a dead ball specialist. This seems like a no-brainer signing which, based on our recent midfield buys, means it may not happen. We need components now who will add something very specific to the team. De Rossi would (and is a better overall player but more expensive, older, more injury prone) but Benat is more creative than De Rossi and would fill a more specific and urgent need at a very good and FFP-friendly price of around £12million.

Definately this ^^^ I think the De Rossi boat has sailed off into the sunset...he had a chance to sign and I for one, would prefer to see a player like Benat signed (though I wouldnt say no to DDR signing on for the right value) I think he can provide something we are really lacking in attack... a very exciting potential signing I think... and on DDR again, Id rather someone who actually would like to jump at the chance to play in the sky blue first time offered.

It feels strange to say it, me being a huge De Rossi admirer, but I think you are dead right. That amount of money he would cost in fee + wages could be used more wisely and future-friendly I think.
Benat looks like a fantastic player and his cost-package would probably by less than half of Danielle's.

Benat and Thiago Alcantara would be nice! :) Poor Jack & co though, who will have a very hard time finding any game time.
