Pep will love JD. I think he'll get some good playing time next season and I wouldn't be surprised if he was tried in front of the back four as Pep will definitely have a player or two play multiple positions. Denayer seems capable of that versatility.

Gala hosted Lazio today for a 1-1 draw - watched bits and pieces of both halves. JD went 90 at RB. Got a 7.65 rating from Whoscored, only trailing the Gala keeper.
The last 20 mins were very strange tho. I've never seen JD so listless and positionally irresponsible. On dead balls he was bent over with hands on knees sucking wind.
I don't think its an injury again - no limping or rubbing a sore spot was seen. He just looked gassed - like a guy fighting a 100-degree fever.
Having said all that, he almost won the game at min 88 with a clever flick and burst down the wing to put in a eye-popping cross that was just headed over the bar.
Never seen him play like that last 20 mins tho, very odd. Whoscored had him at 68% pass completion for 57 touches - he mostly hoofed it long during the 2nd half.

Two other observations - shame Wesley Sneijder plays at left mid and rarely interplays with JD at RB. Learning opp missed, bah.
And Michael Oliver was the ref and missed an obvious handball in the box late in the game. One camera directly over his shoulder showed what he saw -
horrible judgement. Lazio didn't complain that much tho. shrug ...

JD is a centre back & has been out injured.

Running up & down the pitch for 90 mins will not be something he has done too often, even when fit. Probably needs to learn how to pace himself, like Kolarov or Micah ie just not bother every now & then ;)

Thanks for the footage, what is clear is his intelligence, timing and positional play are all excellent,he reads the game very well, looks composed and sticks to the philosophy of keeping things simple. His versatility and athleticism would also be very welcome in our side,he really is an exciting prospect.

Who actually has the time to put these together?
Neither you or me.

One the 1 hand, watching full match you can compare one's actions to the whole match or team and see his movings. On the other hand though, some (me for example) can be to lazy/bored/inattentive to watch the whole match with just 1 player you're interested in being on the field. Especially if the match you watch isn't much of a high quality. [Haven't watched their game vs lazio yet, just saying some obvious general things].

At least whoever does put these together doesn't soundtrack it with the worst euro trash that all those highlight compilations seem to have...

Looks good in those vids.

Confirms what we've already seen
His passing is crisp
He's strong
Rapid as fuck
Good tackler
Good technically with quick feet

Time will clean up his game further and the prospect of Pep working on his game is pretty mouthwatering

Next season I can see him playing alot at RB as well as CB. Infact I think he can save us needing to sign a RB

Agree with your assessment of his strengths. I haven't seen enough of him at right back to decide how big a threat he will be going forward. Have you?
