Jason Denayer

I don't think you can really call that a block. The ball went to the player he tried to pass it to.

Small deflection.
I hate the twat with all my heart but he`s beaten better players than Dena and thats not meant as a swipe,as he`s still a relatively young hand with plenty to learn but also plenty to offer ... especially City.
Still a **** though Tranny.

All that is is Ronaldo doing some fancy stepovers, not actually going anywhere, and then Denayer blocking it when he tries to pass to someone.

No embarrassment at all.

If that number 14 actually stayed with his man instead of being hypnotised by Chinless Ronaldo's waxy smooth legs, we would have just seen Denayer stand up to his man and block his pass.

not great in the air though, which is a drawback for a defender.
Bit of an urban myth that George, while he's no Duncan Ferguson,he doesn't particularly struggle either.

It will be a travesty if this lad doesn't get an opportunity to impress the new manager especially, imo,he saves us the need to purchase.

Don't see why people are wanting to play him at right back... He's a centre back, we have Maffeo who is far better at right back so why not play them both in their correct positions?

I think Big Dunc might have made a good CB if he could have run a bit faster. You may be right that Denayer will rise to the task but to me he looked a bit short of leap on the occasions I've seen play for Celtic. He was usually played as the sweeper back behind Van Dijk for that reason. CB is his preferred position though rather than RB where it's not crucial. He would need to be paired with somebody dominant aerially, which is not Stones or Laporte.

I think it's a height thing, far as I remember he's actually got an alright jump and positionally is fantastic so I feel people are dwelling too much on the fact he's only 6ft. Taller or similar to Puyol, Steve Bruce, Carvalho, Kolo Toure, Carragher etc. As long as he's paired up with a taller CB he'll be absoltely fine.

Though I will say with Pep coming I think we should throw the idea of players having defined positions out the window - he likes his players to be able to play well in multiple positions, which I think Denayer has the potential for.

It's not a height thing, it's a "where could he get in the team most" thing.

Also people know that Pep plays his fullbacks pushed up and infield, playing next to the pivot as extra midfielders, so our fullbacks will need to be very good on the ball, like Denayer is.
