Javi Garcia (continued)

Has been great in the run-in. Poor at Everton but great in the other games. Much needed when Fernandinho took that knock a few weeks back.

Is he in Spain's WC squad?

Thank fuck for some sanity on here, I saw him misplace a 4 yard pass in the second half and your tellin me he deserves a place in this team or he is better than Gareth Barry.....get a grip blues fans

very unlikely that he'll get called up.

Spain have Busquets, Martinez and Alonso.

If Javi was more mobile and had a little more pace, he'd make the squad.

thought he was great yesterday , for all the stick i've given him, he did the job of winning all of West Ham's clearances and getting us back into possession. yaya barely had to retreat, Garcia just cleaned everything up and recycled possession. Still would be nice if he could step into the space to give us a bit more creativity moving forward, but against a parked bus like that he did all the clean up work brilliantly yesterday.
It's interesting. He definitely has less value against a parked bus up until the moment we score. Then he does a very good job of protecting against counterattacks. It's fortunate in a way that our attacking talent is so good. He does contribute well enough to cycling possession where he isn't a lost cause, though, while the bus is parked.

I agree, but I'd add that even against the parked bus yesterday he proved useful in denying any and all service to Carroll when WHU managed to clear the ball. Maybe a CB could have done the job themselves, but I think that risky step forward is what caused some of the breaks against us all season where MDM or VK tried to deny the service and missed, leaving the lone CB exposed and vulnerable. Today isn't the day to be speaking about his replacement, and he still has some very real limitations against a bus, but he did a fantastic job and was the man for the job yesterday.

Oh noes! A misplaced pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever shall we do?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! I'm glad Yaya didn't do anything like that yesterday (he did) or anyone else made a mistake on a simple play this past season (they did) but at least we scraped out of that relegation dogfight.

He's definitely not shit. But he has his weaknesses. With regards to misplaced passes .. you'll find that every player does that sometimes. His passing accuracy is 90% , which is brilliant.

That said, he is not better than Barry, but his wages are less , so I guess it was a good decision to keep him and let Barry go.

That said, the lack of pace is a concern, and we should consider swapping Garcia with Fernando.

I am not a Javi basher by any means, but he did not play well yesterday until we got a goal and the pressure was eased. It was several passes and looked shaky.

Good point. I never thought who he'd be up against in that position. He's not as those three nor is he as good as Gabi or Mario Suárez neither.

I don't think he played extraordinarily well yesterday either. In fact, I would say middling to poor yesterday until we took the lead. He's a far cry from "still shit" though.

I will agree with that.

Says the newbie.

Aguero missed an open net yesterday and failed to seal the match and attempt to beat the record for most goals in a season set by Chelsea. So, by your logic I guess we need to fuck him off.

Some people are clearly still using last season's Garcia to underpin their opinion.

If he'd have signed last summer and played as consistently well as he has this season, you'd be ridiculous to say he hadn't been a success.

Does what it says on the tin and does it well.

Well done Javi :)

In fairness to Rascal , he did stand by the lad all the way through.
I for one had written him off really (at our level).

I was told by Malaga fans 12 months ago that we will notice how well Pellegrini brings the best out of players that have been somewhat written off by their own fans :

Kolarov
Nasri
Dzeko
Garcia
MDM

Fine examples from the charmed one in his first season.

To use your words, what's on the tin would be: "average passer, average tackler, average (at best) speed, reasonable in the air, contributes nothing in defence". If that was the scouting report, I wouldn't want to sign that player. I'm not saying he can't be a serviceable Premier League player for a lower mid-table team like West Ham or Sunderland. But for a title-winning team that has big aspirations in Europe, he's not close to making the grade.

Now given we have him, we can use him as a reserve who can come on to shore up a game but that's about it. The fact that he is improved from last year doesn't mean a whole lot since there was such a low bar to cross from last year.

And btw, he was pretty poor yesterday. Made a couple of decent tackles early on, but gave the ball away on a few occasions and was generally pretty static. Probably our weakest player on the park.

Thought he was good yesterday. Misplaced a few passes but so does every player.

West Ham had no shots on target, hardly any chances and had a small share of possession.

He kept the play ticking over, and yes he does pass forward. His inclusion again let the likes of Silva, Yaya and Nasri play further ahead to break the bus in front of us, which happened. And the way he harries their players, with pace or not, to shift them out wide or stop them moving the ball along at much more ease is something I noted yesterday. He hardly stopped running if West Ham had the ball.

But no, he didn't score a 60 yard screamer and make 7 last ditch tackles so he had a poor game.
How the fuck someone sat in our midfield can have a poor game when we played as dominantly as we did is beyond me. Solid, good performance from me.

You deserve that winners medal Javi.
