Jay Slater | Body confirmed as Jay (P159)

Watched the BBC North West News at 6.30pm and they had a reporter in Oswaldtwistle.
At the end they had some local bod on saying if the body was Jay's then some kind of charity event would be set up to help raise funds to help bring the body home / support the family at this time.
And there was me wondering what the GoFundMe account was for.....

Fair point. If there's enough money in the kitty for repatriation and a decent send-off why would they need to raise more unless it falls outside the scope of the gofundme raising. Can't see that it would when it was always likely to end that way.

The repatriation costs seem to be covered by the money already raised (only what I learned from Google).

Seems in poor taste and feeds into the online sleuth's narrative but if people want to donate to it, it's only really their business. The family aren't pretending to be a charity or required to act in whatever is regarded as good taste.

Really do think more should be done by the social media companies on people making false remarks and nasty comments, maybe look to make it a criminal offence.
Obviously it would be hard to police but some of the theories on this case have been sickening. What is wrong with people these days?
OK he was no angel but at the end of the day he was someone's son and the family didn't deserve to be treated the way they were. What a bad society we now live in.

More should be done about the braindead morons they allow on Social Media. Upload passport, straight forward IQ test. Baseline of how their moral compass is. Fail them and it's a swift twatting round the head with their computers and a life ban from going online.

Would probably (don't know for sure) be covered by his travel insurance.....I'm sure he had some, and wouldn't go abroad without, expecting others to pay up if needed ;)

They'll always be people who try to make the pretty mundane tragic events into something more far fetched.

There's countless threads on here about a fictional serial killer who stalks the Canals.

It's a natural animalistic side of our human behaviour to make links and find patterns etc and very likely goes back to before "we" were humans.

Not sure you can legislate or ban poor taste remarks and conspiracy theories out of existence.

According to the Beeb website his remains and possessions were found close to his mobile phone's last location. Seems odd or just inept that it took almost a month to find him then. Wouldn't the last known location of his phone be where you'd start searching in the first place?
