Clubs inflate the crowd figure by using tickets sold as the attendance and city do the same
look at the attendances at Spurs for recent games and it will show how many really empty seats they have in the new bigger ground despite the “waiting lists “ for season tickets that teams quote. It holds 60k but 40 to 45k for some recent games but this has never been reported by pundits etc
there was empty seats all over the place at arsenal for the sunderland cup game as well at our game on New Year’s Day Again not reported
villa have not sold out all there games this season despite having big “waiting lists “ for season tickets
A bigger ground needs lots of hardcore fans prepared to pay and attend every home game to fill the extra seats not just the odd big game.
let’s see how Everton do in 4 or 5 years in their new ground
once these new fans at the bigger grounds realise the costs of going all the home games in addition to the away trips they soon drop off making it hard for teams to keep filling new bigger stadiums hence some empty seats
unfortunately as a club we are always highlighted in the media as not filling the ground when we have a big loyal fan base that has supported the club for years in all divisions
we also have have fans prepared to take the mickey out of ourselves so we highlight the issue rather than try to cover it up as some teams do
enjoy the quality of football and success we have had in recent years and remember that most of the negative comments we get are from armchair fans at a few clubs who never go to a game anyway so dont know what they talking about
genuine fans at other clubs know we have a big loyal fan base for both home and away games
as such don’t worry about the empty seats etc but enjoy the success of the team and enjoy your own match day out as often as you can afford to as that is what the game is about
