Jim Melrose

Disbelief watching that goal live as others have said. I had the same feeling watching Ya Ya's at Wembley against Sunderland. Everyone thought it was flying over the bar then a collective "For fucks sake Ya Ya!" turned into a roar as it dipped and went into the top corner.

sure i remember him giving city fans the middle finger when he scored for leeds in a 2-0 deafeat in 1987

Are you sure mate?
I remember being at that game, especially the City fans singing "What's it like to play for shit?" at our new goalkeeper Bobby Mimms.
However, I don't recall a goal or abusive gesture from Melrose

In fact, my only memory of Melrose at Elland Road is when he scored for City a few seasons earlier (possibly New Year's Day 1985)

I was right behind it in the North Stand - one of the very few games I actually watched from there. When he whacked it, it went very high and I remember thinking ''what the fuck was that for?'' I thought the keeper was further off his line. The whole thing happened in slow motion like that Jimmy Grimble goal against Reckingham on that gravel pitch in Hulme.... All of a sudden it dips and the keeper starts back peddling and the crowd around me rise in silent expectation..... then a huge roar as it went in..

I was high up in the Kippax next to the away fans so obviously didn't have the same perception of the trajectory as you did.Not quite a moment it left his foot but from a long way out that was going in/close.....lost count of the times when I've searched for that goal on YouTube.

The game was not filmed at all so no footage exists :(

just checked he didn't score, it may have been when he wheeled away celebrating with another goalscorer, city fans were behind the goal, over 30 years ago, bloody hell frightening
