Well, let's be honest, it wasn't clear at all else the club would have acted. I know this is a forum and that is a stock reply, but no matter how you want to look at it, the club did not share this need.

Maybe, they had greater concerns over Walker than meets the eye?

As for CB, this is a specialist role we have and someone looking good for another club, is not how Txiki et al will conduct their assessment for potential recruitment

Perhaps they did as it was widely reported they were targeting Maguire.

Maybe, but lots of clubs are reported as targeting players for reasons we know
If it were a big a problem as being made out, the club would have acted, or maybe we are simply waiting to get the target they want who may not have been available last window

So the people watching from City would know all about that , and yet still decided to go ahead and buy him.

They clearly see something in him which they feel he can bring to the team ?
Yeah no doubt he was bought due to his offensive qualities and maybe with bit of hope Pep can improve him defensively.

Did they really need to spend 60 mill on a right back? Would have been better ,putting that money towards a CB ,which was desperately needed.
Dani left so yes,we couldn't have just ky,we part exchanged so not 60m,vinny leaving took us by surprise with about a months notice,we scout people for a long time and don't panic buy, slabhead was it but not at that price, rags were willing to out bid us on fee and wages,we don't get into bidding wars with them,so far we haven't missed anyone decent

Names don’t pop out but there are players out there. The CB at Leicester Soyuncu looks very good player and 12 months ago many had not heard of him. Really don’t think there was a need to spend such a large amount of money on a back up RB when it was clear to all what our priority was.
As far as I can see, City don’t buy these days without doing their research and being sure of the player. Whilst 100% success is never guaranteed, it seems a sound policy, unlike the expediency of our quiet neighbours. I’m also in the camp that it was an acceptable risk to avoid rushing in for a so-so CB. Particularly so if there was confidence in the emergence of Garcia and Harwood-Bellis (albeit we have yet to demonstrate much faith in youth).

With hindsight it has resulted in some difficulties and has come a bit early for the two young lads. However, we’d all be rich, fat successful fcukers with the benefit of hindsight.
