Usually almost all transfer fees are paid in installments. Very few clubs pay them upfront. I think in special cases like the Laporte deal when Bilbao refused to deal with us, we had to pay the full amount upfront.

Hard to understand but I guess you are right.The problem is, that is going to be the going rate for potential soon. Revenues continue to go up, more and more clubs are going towards the signing young players with potential route as well.
The next Felix or whatever is probably going to cost more. Sterling, Sane, Jesus, Bernardo for example were signed pre-Neymar market. When Neymar cost £200m in 2017 the market went crazy.
