João Félix

He is gonna waste his years of development. The only player in Atletico alongside Carrasco who seems to have any idea what football outside defending and marking is. And he was benched for their most important game of the season, probably because Simeone wanted some more defensive stability...
Atletico scored 51 goals in a league season, absolutely shocking for a top side.

Can't see Atletcio selling him easily though after what they paid a year ago, I just feel sad for the kid.

Don't feel sad, he wanted to go , he is earning a fortune.

Got a feeling Simeone may leave after last night, which will surely benefit Felix.
(For once) the BT panel got it right when they questioned Atletico's tactics. They were archaic and, whilst they got away with it against the dipp, they didn't show any urgency until they went behind last night.

Felix was badly, badly advised to go to Atletico.

He and his family took the money without thinking of his progress in a team not suited to attacking flair players.
He was under massive pressure to leave. We clearly wanted him but once Atletico made it clear they were willing to go 100m plus to make him Griezman's replacement we pulled out.
Benfica wanted the cash and he was left with little alternative.

A certain young Argentine striker was in a similar position at Atletico and it seems to have all worked out nicely in terms of his career.

Let's hope Felix has a similar chance of a move.

Atletico are going backwards and fast, I like Simeone but it would be best for both parties to call it a day.

He probably didn’t have much of a choice. Mendes and Benfica needed him to go when that offer came in. No one else was willing to pay what Atletico paid

If a player is not in control of his own destination then he needs a new agent or something for his weak bladder.
The player employs the agent, not the other way round
Perhaps being so young he struggled to adapt to a new culture , and surroundings. That says something. Yes he has had injuries, that is more mitigating than the other excuses
Anyway we were never goi g to pay 120 million euros for him
If he cannot control his own destiny perhaps it says something about his mental strength.

Just wanted to leave my two cents here.
First of all, I am portuguese and a Sporting CP fan, so I'm sorry if I show a bit of a bias.

João Félix is a great player, no doubt about it. But do we really want him at City?
Can anyone tell me what is his position? No, not one person can.
Is he a striker? No. He's not physical at all and doesn't create that many chances. He's not clinical (watch the play that got him a penalty against Leipzig, he could and should have shot way before getting fouled).
Is he a winger? No. He's not fast enough with or without the ball and couldn't cross to save his life.
Is he an attacking midfielder? No. Like I said, he's not intelligent enough to be a number 10, nor does he have the passing abilities to do so.

What he COULD play as is something similar to Messi's role on Barcelona under Guardiola. But honestly, for that, we already have Bernardo who's leagues above. If we really want to spend this kind of money we should either buy Havertz to play as a false 8/ false 9 mashup or just get Mbappé/Haland to play as a striker.

João Félix (and most players sold by Benfica and Jorge Mendes) is quite overrated and definitely overpriced. Same goes for Ruben Dias. They look amazing playing here in Portugal since at the moment the only other half-decent team is Porto, nothing else. But take a look at their performances in the Champions League and then tell me you want to spend 120M on Félix or 80M on Dias.

He's fucking stuck there now. Nobody's paying that kind of money for anyone for the next couple of years.
If Simeone doesn't go he'll have wasted his talent there.
If anyone can engineer a player swop plus cash would be his only options. Then there's the wages. .....

i understand as a Sporting fan you can be a bit biased when it comes to Benfica. Same here with United. But evenso you can have your opinion and base it on common football sense. To me you did. Or at least tried

Apart from the financial situation and the change in market that to me says it is highly unlikely City will pay the kind of money that Atletico paid, I think you are right about Felix his position.

The one thing I think needs to be mentioned is that Pep can actually make players more aware and much better in the way they play and think about football on and off the pitch. Felix to me does look a smart player and I can understand why City clearly showed an interest in him last year.

Btw, Sporting has my sympathy where Benfica or any team in red hasn’t.

True about Pep's ability to make players aware of their tactical role. But the Premier League will be too much for the little guy. He's already struggling in Spain because the refs don't give him a foul every single time he goes to the ground like they did in Portugal. In England, where refs allow the game to be played a lot more and the players are way more physical, he'd struggle.

He's good. And maybe if he was available for 60M/70M I'd say go for it, but 100M+ for someone who hasn't proven anything yet is too much of a gamble I think.

zepenedo that bias is as much as big as the time Sporting are waiting to win the Portuguese League. :) Felix its a great player, anyone who understands football can clearly see that, Felix was the main reason Benfica recovered a 7points gap 2018/2019 season to Porto to win the league. He is such a talented player, but obvious: he needs to growth.. He is very young. My opinion: he is perfect for City, great playing between the lines, great technique..etc.. and i think he did the wrong option with Atletico and Simeone. Ruben Dias? Top top top defender, the Portuguese National team CB for many many years. With no doubt one of the best CB in the world right now, i dont believe next year he will stay at Benfica....
Regardind young formation players Benfica has some good young players and some not that good young players.. Like Sporting (Nuno Mendes for example or even Rodrigo are good) , like Porto and like so many clubs. But we all know Sporting hates Benfica so much, but guess what: now the rivalry for Benfica fans is with Porto, so you can have rivalry with Braga. :) cheers.

Out of all the 'forwards' mentioned this guy is the best option, he could interchange with our other front guys and cause damage.

I would like a tall player who can head the ball but if the rumours of Pep staying for another couple of years are correct a bustling CF just isn't going to happen.

You’ve not seen Bruno Won Pen over here then?

Of course I have. Bruno used to play for Sporting, which is my team. He's a diver. Any player in the portuguese league is/becomes a diver because refs give penalties very easily. That's why we have a subpar league. But if you watch any of Félix's games at Benfica you will see the exact same thing. The difference is: if Bruno can shoot, he'll shoot, if not he'll dive; Félix will always go for the penalty even if he's in a good position to score.

With that said, Bruno is twice the player Félix is and was one of the very few good deals Man Utd got. And this is coming from one of the few Sporting fans who wanted him out.

Joao Felix is an exciting player and would be a great addition imo. However, it's alright having lots of playmakers but we are need of someone that is prolific at putting the ball in the back of the net.
We can improve on our goalscoring but the overall record this season shows that it's the defensive aspects of our game that need working on.

I am pretty sure that Pep tinkered because he was having nightmares about our defence.

We can be better in both boxes but our goals scored is amongst the highest in football and comparable to our best seasons. The problem is at the base of midfield where Rodri has yet to work and at central defence. Left back might also be a problem...we ended up playing a right back at left back vs Lyon (when Mendy and Zinchenko were fit).

Yeah, definitely, the defense is the most important area that needs work. I'm not disputing that but this a thread on Felix. I know we score huge numbers of goals, too, but we miss countless chances. It's fantastic to watch us out 5,6,7 goals past a team but then we struggle like mad to score 1 against another team, miss chances and drop points.
