João Palhinha

I hope this is true. We could really use a ready-made player like Palhinha. He is 28, and I am sure he wants to win something big at the club level. It's now or never for him.
Any upgrade on Philips would be welcome, but aren't we also apparently in for Andre Trindade at £30m?

He's an absolute beast, a brilliant passer & creative too. He's the closest thing I've seen to Fernandinho who apparently recommended André to City.

At 22, He's got his career in front of him, as opposed to 28 year old Palhinha, & He's cheaper too.

Palhinha is proven in the PL, so I suppose is less of a risk, but as things stand I'd still opt for Andre who's more Fernandinho, as opposed to Pahlinha who's more Rodri-like. We could do with a mix of both styles at CDM.

Maybe we could do with both…. Struggling for numbers at the minute.

I like the look of Andre as well. As you said, much younger, and has more Fernandinho-like potential. On the other hand, Palhinha is a "safe" option, PL-tested, more experienced, and a better player right now. Whichever one we end up going for, I will be happy. As long as we get one in, and it has to be in January, IMO.

We'd end up with Rodders, Andre & Pahlinha scrapping for CDM. I think we'll only go for one, & my personal preference would be Andre, as I think we need a mix of playing options at CDM, more than like for like Midfielders.

Phillips was also proven in the Premier League. It can give an indication but we have seen that it does not guarantee anything.
Palhinha looks like a decent player but we have already signed Kovacic, 29, Kevin is 32. We need younger players. I would go for Andre

Put Rodders in the back 4 - that needs tightening up - urgently.

Very true. PL experience helps, but is no guarantee of success as Philips has shown.

Does it though? This is the most baffling aspect of our leaky defence. We had the best defence last season & strengthened it with Gvardiol.

In fact I can't think of a stronger defence ever at City, which suggests to me our issues are to do with tactics, or the protection ahead of them because of our formation, or probably a combination of both.

As I pointed out earlier, the biggest issue I've noticed is us being willing to play deeper, at a more relaxed pace, hoping a ball in behind, over the top, or splitting the defence would unleash Haaland.

Previously, we'd be camped in the oppositions half, strangling them to death & have to walk the ball into the net through a packed defence, but if we lost the ball, they'd still have most of the team & the pitch to get through to pose a danger to our defence & Ederson.

Because we're happy to play deeper, it means the opposition are on top of our defence, so one individual error, or if we lose possession, they're in on goal.
