Joe is a professional athlete. A "redundancy notice" to him is very different scenario than someone living in the real world. Athletes are regularly sent packing -- it is a part of the job. Hell, in many sports in the US, the players don't even have a say in the matter. They may get sent to another team without even knowing about it until the transaction is final.That's not the point he's making though - he's just saying that if you've just been told you're not good enough at something, chances are you won't be smiling about it.
Sure it's hardly the end of the world for him, but it's a bit humbling and possibly embarrassing. We can't judge his feeling on a few stills, or few seconds of footage. I bet I could photograph any match going fan over the course of a match and make them look mad / sad / angry / upset
There are two ways to approach this situation and he's not doing so in a very professional manner.
