What I find odd is that Joe came back from the Euros and surely would have been made aware of what was now required. Yet after one half of a friendly it has been decided he is surplus to requirements. Something must have gone on in training although IIRC wasn't Pellers possibly looking to replace him as well. Maybe this isnt just about what happens on the pitch.
Indeed Joe didn't tick all the boxes with both Mancini and Pelligrini. He is a great goalkeeper and saved us on many occasions BUT he has weaknesses and limitations in his game shown for City and England. Having assessed his skill, application and team contribution Guardiola is fully warranted in seeking to replace him with the team building required to take us to the next level. Fans of all clubs want to see their teams improve and moving on legends is part of the process.
Thanks for the memories Joe and all the best.

Back in the day, when Howard Kendal was appointed manager, we experienced something very similar.

Andy Dibble fans favorite, was quickly replaced by the bad boy Tony Coton.

What an outstanding bit of management by Howard, Dibble may have been a fans favorite, but was bang average. Tony Coton was a bad boy, but what a magnificent keeper and a huge influence in the dressing room.

Most fans only get to see players for 2 games a week, Pep get to work with these guys all week, he gets into their heads, he is constantly watching them. He is asking himself can he trust these players. Maybe its not just Joe's distribution, maybe he simply does not like him, or see's something that he simply does not trust.

In conclusion if Pep thinks it's in our interest to let Joe go, so be it.

Sad, but thanks Joe and good luck.

Kendall really knew his stuff & is the only real top manager we've had at the club between Mercer/Allison & Pep. (Unfortunately also a raging piss head who didn't want to be here)

The difference here is that Pep is also building for the future whearas Kendal was trying to rebuild the past, but you're right, same thing when it comes to players. We went from a wide open, flakey team, to solid as a rock, in no time.

Howard was an outstanding manager, and I simply was amazed when he went back to Everton. The City team he build was as you said rock solid and a class team. So much so, that Peter Reid lived off it for 3 years until he was sussed out

Yep, he just converted it to pure long ball as he couldn't do what Kendall did. Kendall imo was building a title challenging team.

And he did it 100% his way, with unpopular choices & even for a while, unpopular football (fans moaning as we learned how to pass it & defend) but he didn't give a fuck, just kept on, & that's what Pep will do, on another level.

.

Ironically when you compare it with the current situation, City's main tactic at that time was to pass back to Coton who would lump it hopefully up the field.

We used to call him City's playmaker.

Pep and City will undoubtedly be blamed for Joe's forthcoming fall from his England n1 spot as a result of all this despite the poor performances he has been putting in at the Euros.
Queue City ruined my career headlines!

Fans favourite? Dibble was fucking shite. That calamity goal at Forest still gets a showing on 'Football mistakes'.

I remember 2 fans having a punch-up at Notts County in the FA Cup pre-match about him.

i wish Joe the very best and I'm sad to see him leave but he has slipped imo and his failure to learn from his mistakes has led to his downfall. He could have been part of something truly great if only he was willing to try something new.
Oh well

Yep.

Dibble was a clown. He was more interested in getting barely legal girls drunk at City social events and banging them in the back of his car than he was being a decent goalkeeper.
