Joe Hodge

“Following his transfer to Wolves Joe (& family) would like to extend a massive thanks to Manchester City for providing a football and academic education second to non. We would especially like to thank those individuals across the whole of CFA who have looked after him over an incredible 12 years. Its been an honour for Joe to be part of and represent the club he supports & win so many youth trophies culminating in the FA Youth Cup.

We would also like to thank fellow parents and followers of the academy (and bluemoon) for all their kind words & support.

Joe is excited by the new challenge, will be playing again soon and will continue working hard to achieve his ambition to play top level football. He will be at CFA watching is sister play when he can & of course City will always have a special place in his heart.”

Some of you will think he had a chance others not - all about opinions.

For the record Joe is one of the most decorated academy players of all time (wining every cup and league competition available across 2 age groups plus the youth cup). He has never let the club down on and off the pitch and has always given 100% . He’s had a few injury setbacks and whilst he had an offer to extend his contract He is grateful to City for sanctioning this move which he feels will provide a great opportunity going forwards.

Let’s see what the future holds.
Really good move for him, comes across really well and has all the tools to make it. Good luck to him at Wolves.

Very sad to see this lad move on, one I had and still have great hopes for, at club and international level. I hope he can put injuries behind him and have a successful career.

Played well apparently, this is from the Guardian’s 10 talking points from the weekend -

9) Hodge impresses on Wolves debut

Another game, another defeat for Wolves and, all in all, it was a miserable afternoon for the visitors given how comprehensively they were beaten by Chelsea. If there was one positive for them it was the performance of Joe Hodge on what was the 20-year-old’s senior debut for the club. Hodge, who has been capped at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland, was an industrious and combative presence in midfield having replaced Gonçalo Guedes at half-time, a block on 60 minutes that prevented Conor Gallagher having a relatively clear shot on goal from the edge of the area especially eye-catching. Hodge’s use of the ball was also neat and he looks like a player to whom Wolves’s next manager – expected by most to be Julen Lopetegui – should give more minutes in the coming weeks and months.
