Joe Strummer

Great docu-film on C4 at 11.40 tonight about one of my heroes. I've seen it a couple of times.
Joe was a great, great man, you wouldn't find him selling butter on the telly.
Is he dead?

Saw him fronting the Pogues at The Apollo years ago. Not as good as Shane McGowan though.

FAKE! From that film, he was just an old HIPPIE!!! As 'Punk' as Rick Wakeman....ha ha ha. Ever been had?!

Come off it, course Joe was a hippie, coming of age in the late 60s who wouldn't have been?
More than anything though, Joe was a rebel. He lived the counter-culture life and he never sold out.
Okay, he was fallible, but his generosity of spirit and his dedication to his music eclipses anything bad.

There has been loads of brilliant music from these shores since The Beatles and The Stones were in their pomp,
but The Clash and The Smiths are the only bands from the last 30 years that really matter.

Superbly put.

Too many people attempt to use the 'Not real Punks' stick to beat The Clash and Joe with, but I've always thought of it as a compliment if anything.

5+1 albums all quality, if Jo was an old hippy why did he split the band when Jonesey started to behave like a rock star?

Hippies had principles that live with them today, remember the punks were in the majority hippie offspring.

just finished watching those doc`s on strummer and then the clash.
what a great band the Clash were,not just punk,but dabbled in rap,reggae,rock a billy,ect
white man in hammy palais=in my top 3 songs of all time

Ex colleague of mine was the Mother of his keyboard player in his last band.

Joe attended her son's wedding about a year before he died and ex colleague said he was a gentleman and a scholar. A few other "names" turned up too......ex colleague said they were all delightful company.
