Re: John Bond
His first 9 months at the club were the time when my support hardened from relatively casual to obsessional. I went to maybe 6-8 games a season with my dad for a few seasons before that, wore the scarf and all that, but when he arrived we started going every week. The optimism which surged through the club was incredible at the time, after Allison had destroyed us. We started winning every week, crowds went right up, the atmosphere was superb. We went to the League Cup Semi and were robbed by Liverpool in two memorable, armospheric night matches. We beat United. The cup run was electrifying: back then the FA Cup was as big a competition as the League. We should have won the cup in that first game.
City appeared to be back. We weren't, of course. It all went tits up after that cup final replay and the club didn't recover until The Sheikh arrived.
Thanks for those memories Johnny Bond.
