John Bond 1932-2012

Sad news, can't think of anything more to add but that cup run culminating in the '81 cup final was a fantastic roller coaster ride.
Football managers like him are not around anymore, more Arthur Daley/Swiss Tony than Pep Guardiola.

I still have vivid memories of him jumping from the Directors box. For those too young to remember, we had just beaten Norwich 6 0, his son Kevin was playing full back for Norwich and had a stinker. John Bond had jumped down to try and console, maybe comfort his son, I think that says a lot about the guy.

RIP Big Fella, thanks for the memories.
Didn't he break his ankle doing that?
I remember Kevin Bond being interviewed after the game, his dad's injury was mentioned and he said something like "Yeah, I heard he fell off his wallet"

Remember when he was Appointed,The news came through as we were coming back from the Hawthorns lost 1-3,(Daley) His firste homegame was against Birmingham-we lost 0-1,but brought the three Tommy Hutch.Bobby Mac and Gerry Gow in -when the Transfer Window didnt exist and off we went! Semi Final @ Scousers (which i still cant understand why Kevin Reeves goal was disallowed by Alf Grey @ MR) And came within 10 Mins v Spurs of lifting the Fa Cup @Wembley.Great days coupled with Respectability in Div 1,Trevor Francis arrived, the following season-Wonderfull Times.RIP John you are still one of us!!

Am actually welling up here.

Thanks for the memories, I still to this day rave about some of the stuff that Tommy Hutch could do on the wing in a City shirt, to anyone who cares to listen.

RIP John Bond

In Australia our first taste of English football on tv was the Big Match and Match of the Day. I have quite vivid memories of John Bond and my impression from afar was that he seemed quite a gentleman. Also I was mightily impressed by his thatch of hair! Funny how some things stick in the memory.

He was clearly well loved. Condolences from Australia.

Great memories of the bloke, had the pleasure of meeting him, and found him to be very charasmatic, and always happy to discuss City. He persuaded Trevor Francis to sign for us, and those two cup finals (bunking off school like plenty of kids did on that Thursday lol), never to be forgotten. I never got to the bottom of the bad feeling between some Blues and him when we were promoted at Bradford that day, I know it happened, but I dont think for one second he ever wished the club any harm. Maybe his style of telling people how it is/was didn't sit well with fans at the time, given our fall from grace, but I would sincerely hope all Blues could put any grievances they had to one side, and look at what he did for City, when we were staring relegation in face, and the major surgery he performed in bringing Gow, Hutchinson and MacDonald to the club. Thank you John Bond, rest in peace feller......:-(
