John Stones

Best give Pep a call and let him know, who he should be buying then.

I don't want to mention how many things I mentioned in the past turn out to be right regarding transfers, but anyhow, lets hope Stones will have huge success with us and justify every penny of his transfer fees.

For 50 million Pound we should buy defender who is already established and considered to be world class defender.

Hi mate....You could put Sane in the same bracket! Both still young, very talented and still improving! We now have a manager that believes he can help them reach their full "world class" potential. Thats good enough for me!;)

I'd be tempted to fuck this off personally, don't want to see us get the piss taken out of us by another scouse club for another overrated and overvalued English player.

People posted his completed passes percentage last night, but it's not the be all and end all. Merteshacker's is greater and I doubt anyone would suggest we go in for him.

I had a look at his interception stats on Whoscored last night, usually the most accurate stat for getting a picture of a defender's intelligence and awareness, and Stone's average is literally half that of even Winston Reid. Otamendi averaged more than double the amount of interceptions Stones did last season, Koscielny even more still.

He's miles away from the top centre halves in terms of blocks, tackles and clearances as well.

His only exceptions were his blocks on crosses, seemingly due to his height, and that he was rarely dribbled past.

We all know about the ability with the ball, but how much can he improve defensively? That was our biggest vulnerability last season, we need to be more defensively solid.

Anyone who watched Stones last year will know that these stats are reflected in what they've seen watching him play. I know I do.

And while I know if the move happened Pep would improve him as a player, how much improvement can be made in areas of his game which are innate, things related to intelligence - and how they'll affect his ability to recognise danger, intercepting the ball and sniffing out danger.

I've had real doubts about this one for a while but seeing those jokers possibly getting Williams, the better centre half, for a fraction of the price they're demanding we stump up for Stones has got under my skin.

This is another gamble and I'm sceptical, I really am. We'd be paying through the nose for potential and the English tag again if it goes though, he has a lot to prove.

But feel free to ignore my angst, just wanted to get it off my chest. If he does sign I'll be hoping and praying he does well, of course.

You forgot one important factor and that is he was playing in a team with a mediocre manager and an average midfield in front of him. How many times did he burst out of defence as the midfield in front of him was static? He'll flourish under pep, all his qualities suppressed under martinez will get drawn out by pep. Fact!!

To beging with I expect Otamendi to be our 1 CB, our second you can pick one of the following ( Kompany if fit, Mangala, Denayer, Fernando or Fernandinho )
How would we go about buying any of those players for £50m?

Even if Williams was offered to us for free with a guarantee they'd give us £30m for Bony we'd still turn it down and push for Stones.
Saying Williams is better misses the point of the signing. The two players are chalk and cheese in the way they approach the game, one is tailor made for us, one was trailer made for us a decade ago.

Agree I think Stones is a fantastic player but I don't blame people for being sceptical and not wanting to give the scousers a good fee for him the other thing is how many centre half's have we bought in the last few years for big money and for one reason or another it hasn't worked out well let's hope stones can be the one to buck the trend
