John Stones

That was my other post about Everton in general. The point I was making to @mosssideblue was simply that whatever his personal opinion might be of the defensive qualities of John Stones he is clearly a player who Pep wants. Coupled with Pep's recent comments about how he likes midfielders in the back four because of their passing ability and also general ability on the ball it suggests that being a top defender (which Huth and Morgan were for example for Leicester last season) isn't the top priority for Pep when choosing which defenders to sign. It was related to the question he posed at the end of his post where he asked "do you rate his ability to defend?". Shame he couldn't make sense of my post though as I'd be curious to see what his answer would be.
Agreed. For the record, If I was City's manager, I too, would go for the Andy Morrison, Kick, or head, it as far away from your penalty area as quickly as possible, type of CB, rather than the John Stones/Paul Futcher model.

However, we know Pep prefers people who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet. Hence the uncertainty over Joe Hart's future.

Stones has been seen in Manchester a few weeks ago I think. They're not too far away, and Bony was at training today.

I have no qualms with your post. What I would suggest though, tnat even with Peps style of play and what he expects of his defenders, I,m convinced, the ability to defend will be a requisite. My view on JS ability to defend is simplky, my view. I,m sure some will agree and some wont, but lets not pretend ( not aimed at you) that Peps style negates the need to defend properly.

The point is, or for me at least, it's that if you look at the way Pep's teams defend and what kind of 'defenders' he has used, then it's probably fair to say that midfielders or players of that ilk find it easier to 'defend properly' in Pep's system than say Richard Dunne would. The ball playing ability makes the player a better defender for Pep's system.

Lets leave it there. We both know were on the same side and want the best for our team, which is all that matters. Not long to wait now
