Jonny Evans

What makes you so sure?

We have four home grown players in the CL squad already, and as good as Delph has been he's not a proper left back and we're certainly not going to get rid of Stones/Walker/Raz.

Where would be the sense in paying a silly amount for a 30 year old ex rag if not for the fact he's home grown?

Either way we could do better at either backup LB or backup CB by using it as foreign spot.

We can have more than 4 association players, it just means one of them takes up a foreign spot.

Seeing as Evans will directly take Mangala's place in the squad, he'll also take that place in the squad list.

I know we can have more than 4 home grown players in the squad. The point I was making was why would we?

We can do better than Delph at LB with that foreign spot. We could have Phillip Max or Grimaldo or Ghoulam or any number of people.

We can do better than JFE at CB with that foreign spot. We could Skriniar or Gimenez or Hernandez or again any number of people. Hell Juve seem to think they could get Gimenez for something like 40 million euros, which isn't that far removed from the 30 million quid we might end up paying for Jonny.

To keep both would therefore be a poor decision, and if Pep is so set on JFE, then that surely points to a Delph exit in the summer.

Why wouldn't we keep a player who's proven to be at the heart of this side?

If we sign Evans to replace Mangala, that's it. That's the guy who's taking Mangala's foreign place. Why would we get rid of a player who's earned Pep's trust and performed brilliantly just because Evans has a british passport?

Okay fine, if you think Delph is someone Guardiola will be happy with at left back long term then great. I don't but whatever, my point works both ways.

If Delph is going to be fourth home grown slot, then why sign Evans when we can clearly do better? The whole reason we were initially linked with him was because he is a left sided CB who is homegrown. If we're not going to use that fact (which also has nothing to do with having a british passport) then why sign him at all?

Fingers crossed it's us he's signing for, he'll be a fine addition to the squad. Hopefully the small time Charlies that resent the lad for his United connection will give him a chance and not get on his back from the word go.
Nothing small time about it. I don't like the fucker because of his Rag connections, but it's about football, and I've watched him a few times. He is absolutely no way near a £30m football player, and he'll fuck up as much as Mangala has when he's expected to play football.
