Jonny Evans

Yeah and you might well be proven right, I'm not for one second suggesting Delph has been anything but excellent, I just don't think he is the kind of full back Pep would want long term. He doesn't really offering anything going forward - occasional screamers aside - he doesn't get up and down the wing and I genuinely don't think I've seen him whip a ball in with his left foot once. Whereas the 3 full backs pep has brought in himself all do this. Plus the kind of left back we're being linked with, if there is any truth to those rumours, all do as well.

So if Evans were to arrive, it at the very least asks the question, which of the five homegrown players we then have fits the system the least and in that scenario Pep might conclude that that is Delph. Thats all I'm saying.

I might be being thick here, but I'm still not understanding the last bit. Why does bringing in Evans mean we have to start assessing the usefulness of our other homegrown players?

The homegrown angle was never a part of it in the summer, because everyone already knew we had 4 homegrown players...

I literally just showed you five articles which ALL alluded to the fact that Jonny Evans was linked at least in part because he was homegrown. Irregardless, we effectively didn't have 4 homegrown players in the summer because it was widely reported we were trying to sell Delph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/06/07/manchester-city-ready-sell-fabian-delph-12million/

So basically this is just you wanting Delph gone and trying to force Evans to be a part of it. Right, would have saved us all some time if you just said that from the beginning.

I don't for one second want Delph gone, I am more than happy to have him as backup left back, he's great. I would far rather we keep him for the fourth home grown slot and sign a foreign centre back for the 3rd/4th choice role instead.

All I am suggesting is that by paying a huge fee for an old, ex-rag centre back with no pace and who hasn't ever played at the top level, who's only redeeming quality is he counts as homegrown for champions league, Pep is suggesting he doesn't want one of our other home grown players and its pretty unlikely that unlucky bloke is going to be the best rb in the league, our top scorer or our future captain.

So you think we're getting Evans cos we're intent on getting rid of Delph? I really don't think that's the case. Also, whether or not you think he's excelled at the top level is a different argument, but you can't deny he has top level experience. He has three premier league winners medals and champs league experience.

I hope you're right, and that's a good point about the experience - I'd argue that he was never their main man in those seasons but its still experience I suppose.

First few pages of the thread make for amusing reading. 'Rather have lee evans' was one of my favourites

Hey, here's a thought.....

Mancini won the league and wanted to consolidate and sign some cracking players to move us onto the next level. The club didn't back him, WE SIGNED SHITE and he was gone the season after.

Now Guardiola wants to sign Sanchez to move us to the next level, and the club let him have JFE.............so there's only one conclusion......... THE CLUB WANT RID OF GUARDIOLA! IT'S SO FUCKING OBVIOUS.
