Jonny Evans

I'd be happy if we signed him. Experienced at a high level, good defender, comfortable enough on the ball. WBA fans surely don't rate him so highly for nothing.

I hate the United connection of course, but I'm willing to overlook it given he was never a mega twatty one like the ones we're used to, like Lingard or Pogba of present or similarly Evra or Ferdinand of past.

Oh god. I forgot about Tosin. He's off. The day Jonny Evans comes in, is the day all our u21 CB's pack their bags.
That's a point if we bring in Evan's for that amount, could we really argue if Tosin sees that as his cue to leave?

I don't think as a club we value the CB position enough these days. We have one proper good CB but don't think getting another good one in is a priority. We have Jesus, Aguero, Sane, Sterling, Silva, KDB and Bernardo as attacking options and players like Fidel, Diaz and Roberts coming through as back up but we think we need to spend the big bucks at that end of the pitch.

I don't know if the club value CB's or not but I'd like to think they do. I think they have a decent degree of confidence that Vinnie will be available when we need him. They paid a fortune for Stones and I'm sure they still have high hopes for him, as do I, and as I often point out, Ota was statistically the best CB in the league last season. VVD was second best and I would love to sign him but I'd rather have Mbappe or Sanchez because our biggest problem has been failure to convert chances and, as Billy mentioned, we are intending to be an attacking team.

Edit: don't forget Pep's teams usually have the best defensive record in league and last season we were team that conceded fewest shots on goal.

Or maybe some of don't see why we need to sign a CB at all ? We've got 5 in the senior squad and that doesn't even include Denayer. Why do we need any more ?

Presumably Adarabioyo and Mangala will be leaving, either on loan or permanently?

Not a bad player and i agree that sometimes left field signings pay off, but i though the same could happen with Sinclair, Rodwell etc. rather stick with what we've got

No, no and thrice no! I don't care that he has played for them lot he is still both not good enough and not better than at least 3 defenders we will/have got rid of.

Of available homegrown. Not far. No doubt you would prefer Ben Gibson and think that option is better.

You don't think Ben Gibson is better sportingly as well as financially? Than £18m for Jonny Evans?

In fact do you not think Mangala, Denayer, Tosin are better in both area's too?

Jesus Christ, I mean Smalling would be better than this.

They did but there not natural wingers and playing an actual 'back three' results In one less creative player in the side so full agreement with regards the virtual back three.

The pace/tempo comes with having the right options. If there is little movement/passing options in advanced areas players will naturally go side to side. It's more instinctive for a Sane Sterling/Jesus to make that run than a Kyle Walker/Danilo. It feels to me like we're playing with the brakes on.

Pep, or people around him, talk a lot about controlling the game and taking the heat out of a match by dictating possession. I hope this was how he viewed Brighton and the first game in the Premiership rather than a transition to a regular back three.

Agree.

Pep can be a little more conservative away from home so it will be interesting to see what he does with the first home game since last season.

The reaction to this news if proof a lot of you don't watch football outside of City. Evans is actually a very good player.

Someone on here claimed WBA fans would be laughing their head's off if we bought him when most would agree he's easily their best player.
