He's English and that's important for most journalists in a post-Brexit world. Silly nationalist sentiments play a role.

Mane's been better this season but isn't English. TAA has been better but is youngish and will get the other award.

It is quite amazing looking at the list of honours this ridiculously average player has achieved in his career. There have been true greats of the game that have won less than he has. Been carried his entire career by much better players. If I were him I'd be too embarrassed to accept this.
