The agent of Spain international Jordi Alba has confirmed both Chelsea and Manchester City have been in contact with Valencia regarding the player's availability.

Alba, who is able to operate at full-back or on the wing, has been particularly impressive for Valencia this season, and has also established in Vicente del Bosque's Spain squad.

Manchester United have also been frequently linked with the 23-year-old, as Sir Alex Ferguson makes plans to reinforce his squad during the summer transfer window. But, it would appear, the Premier League champions are behind both Chelsea and Manchester City in the pursuit of Alba, with both clubs having already made their interest known.

Valencia, though, are desperate to keep Alba at the Mestalla, and are already in talks with the Spaniard about extending his current deal with the club.

"We are conducting negotiations for a contract extension and I cannot rule out that we will reach an agreement soon," Alba's agent Vicente Fores Cornejo told Tuttomercatoweb.

"Barcelona, as well as Chelsea and Manchester City and maybe AC Milan, have had contacts with Valencia, but personally I'm just talking with Valencia."

Valencia have been forced to sell a number of their prized assets in recent years, and Alba could be the latest player to leave the club for pastures new.

In the summer of 2010, both David Villa and David Silva left the club - for Barcelona and Manchester City respectively - while Juan Mata was sold to Chelsea last year.

The second time in the last month his agent has name-dropped us, Chelsea, Barca, and Milan. Barca seems like the obvious choice if they press ahead to try and sign him. If not, we could sign him but it would be dependent on Kolarov leaving for Serie A, where he is still rated very highly!

it's not a new season under the new ownership until a new left back is brought in again. Wouldn't be in my top 3 priorities for the squad.

I thought he was Barca's top target this summer especially with Eric Abidal's situation? Barca have said Bale is too expensive for them, Tottenham want £40m minimum.

Well Mundo Deportivo said our very own Kolarov is an alternative if they can't sign Alba! Hard to believe, especially as his passing ability isn't very good but it's hard to find a good left-back. Barca (and United) are also looking at Granada's left-back Guilherme Siqueira who has had a great season.
