Jorginho

Considering it's us who've been dragging this for over a month, I think it's a bit rich to start questioning Jorginho's intentions.

'Intentions' or 'interests' work both ways. We aren't exactly bidding for slaves who have no needs or desires of their own.

End of the day he's a person too and if he's going to see City delay things for so long, I wouldn't blame him one bit if he chooses the next suitor if they're willing to wrap things up quickly, pay more, and offer the situation of living in London.

We can all then sit and clap at the 'principle' of standing firm over a few million quid, if we do end up cocking this up.

I personally think it's hilarious how we purportedly take a stance of only signing players who think City are the only worthwhile club to join in the world, as if we've already attained Real Madrid status. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a bit of swagger about us as a club, but there's a thin line between that and delusion.

See I wasn’t questioning him but the player has a say in the transfer too..if he wants Sarri and London go for it...yeah we haven’t reached madrid level fame yet but we gotta start somewhere, and let’s be honest here if madrid wanted him he’d be there so if you’re asking the player choose between Chelsea and city let him decide...Anyway Seri in London(Chelsea bound?) so let’s see how this fruitates

So many people who feel they have an understanding of what this negotiation has been like. We have absolutely no clue who is or will be at fault. It's just as likely that ADL was always going to come up with new clauses and things to stall the deal to bring Chelsea into it as it is that we were being extremely cheap. Who the hell can know. We are impatient and that's our right as fans but there's little reason to do anything but trust the club to handle the business side and if this target doesn't work out it will only be one among dozens albeit one we hear more about than most.

Couldn't agree with you more. People need to stop thinking that Pep is the be-all in football. At the end of the day, if Jorginho chooses money we should be the last set of fans to complain about players choosing money. Some of the posts in here seem extremely arrogant and RAWKish.

Well said

It's not even about money. These players are making massive life decision which involve uprooting their families and moving to a new country with few/no friends.

If you fuck about too much and leave people with so much of their life up in the air for weeks on end, sometimes they're going to grab onto a concrete solid offer even if it only offers 90% of what the dream move did.

I appreciate Txiki and Soriano trying to be firm negotiators and not have the club taken advantage of - it's a very important part of the transformation they seem to be trying to make from nouveau riche "throw money at the wall until it sticks" to part of the established and very wealthy elite, but at the same time while we're doing that, leaving players waiting while we haggle over a few million or so does leave us vulnerable to a player doubting how serious you're taking things and someone else undercutting you.

It's a very fine balance they have to strike and we might lose a couple of players over it - doesn't necessarily mean the players are greedy or Begiristain and Soriano are incompetent.

Can't believe the bollocks i'm reading on here – slagging off pretty much everyone at the club if this doesn't go ahead!
It has been widely reported that Jorginho himself has agreed a deal – so we can safely guess that any hold us is not him... quite simply, we have now got a policy of not letting teams take the piss over transfers... yep we've paid over the odds in the past, but with FFP and other considerations, we are now dictating terms over transfers... this however does not make negotiations easy in today's transfer market, with both selling clubs and players agents holding out their hands for more!
If Jorginho ends up going to Chelsea, it will be because they have offered substantially more money to Napoli and Jorginho's agent... but what would everyone have City do - pay over the odds? Look at Sanchez to the Rags... or Pogba – it's come to light how ridiculous the agents fees and wages in both of those deals were – it's not that we can't pay, but refuse to pay – and I for one think the club is right to do so.

Thank you. If the player agrees to a move and the club spend the next two months haggling over £2m or whatever and another good option meets the asking price in the meantime, it's our problem if he chooses to accept the other, not his. Debate the merits of us deciding not to meet the asking price but blaming the player is something the boys down at 'istory FC do.
